https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...95df6fc18.jpeg Reworked these hinges with bigger holes and push lock pins. Also got the top tuned up and tightened up. This is a total replacement from a couple years back, not totally perfect but nice enough and a requirement for Florida summers. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...5dc136189.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ff48f757d.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d5d00c022.jpeg This center section of the back seat spans about 2 feet and originally had a rib of marine plastic lumber. Plastic is not good in tension so it really isn’t suitable as the section of a beam. I flattened it on a board then added some aluminum angle section to hold it flat. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...513696c4b.jpeg This piece spans the top of my console and covers a plexi glass slider thingy. It also sagged so I braced it with thick a SST bar. The downside to SST is that it’s harder than a whores heart, so I had machinist drill and countersink the holes. I wanted to be able to stand on this piece. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f3aefb6da.jpeg Replaced weather stripping on the kick panel of the console. This was surprisingly difficult. I ordered about 4 weather strips before I found one I liked. Then the glue job was kinda nasty and got complicated with boards and clamps to keep it straight. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c4dd50633.jpeg Finally found a rotomolded cooler that fits under here! It’s a discontinued Engel. The braced seat helps this too. Also replaced more sun faded hull access plates. |
Next up was sending the boat in to a shop with a long punch list. This took a lot longer than planned and I was getting pretty bored.
This was a 35 Donzi cuddy CC that was getting the cuddy cut out! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b22efa4ff.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...71af6128c.jpeg Got bored and bought this, 2018 Miami blue 7 speed. I must have bought the absolute top of this Porsche market 😂😩 https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ad052a8dd.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...506520711.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...acde7a62d.jpeg Thankfully had a friends boat in storage I could use. Fun little 242 just repowered with a 383 Mag MPI. I also put a mild stereo in this boat earlier this year. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1687e318f.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...85684d1cf.jpeg |
Nice work!

Back to Marlago stuff.
Race boat parts! 24” electric lencos with trim indicators! This boat originally had lame little cruiser Bennett’s. At inception these were reasonably priced 50mph big for the time center consoles pushed by 2x 225hp 2 stroke mercs. The two strokes were about 100lbs per side lighter than 4 strokes. The boat also has major engine setback designed into the integrated motor bracket. All that adds up to this boat running pretty bow light. Keeping my water tank full and my reserve tank fairly full really flattened it out. But knowing how pad boats like weight in back, this really bothered me. Plus lugging around weight unnecessarily greatly bothers the engineer in me. So these give me the option of running the boat light and turning the props if I want as well. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...6fc250119.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a5a8062ba.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...170294e02.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...cdac53008.jpeg Previous owner brought the batteries into the console to shift some weight forward and get them out of the gross mildewy transom. As my stereo boxes closed in half of this, and the watts went up. I kept adding batteries. I ended up with 3 group 31 deep cycles on a bank as a house, and 1 cranking by itself. Havent managed to deep cycle the house bank with 2000 watts rms. Both amp are class D digital switching amps as well, which draw 60-70% of an equivalent class AB amp. Anyways, they turned my cutting board into a cabinet door to access this whole mess. New bigger battery charger. All new cables to the motors. New posts in the transom. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...41382e058.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ebaf80f7b.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e45d2bff1.jpeg This boat always had a major lack of cup holders for being sort of hybrid cruiser/fisher. So I had the regular rod holder replaced with cup holder versions. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...9e167b1ac.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...158dcf287.jpeg Getting shined up. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1d999108c.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2e62d05d7.jpeg Original install. Tabs didn’t do anything in the first half of travel and didn’t stuff the bow hard enough. Brought the rams in quite a bit after this. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...26cc051c3.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f4aa03ce3b.png New wheel. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...469f0cff5.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b957ff471.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ae155a0d8.jpeg |
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c19418668.jpeg
Rigid light bar. I don’t plan on being the guy ramming tour boats or channel markers. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...988610114.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...8ef023985.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...cb8ad1104.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f7383b82a.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...66f2bac08.jpeg New interior! Diamond stitched with light grey threads. Newer material type that holds up better. They replicated the marlago stitching! Foam is also a higher quality. I squared the combing pads (the side pads). To give me a bit more hip room around the console. This is a 9’2” beam boat popped from the 36’ cig widebody. A bit narrower than the typical 10ft beam modern CCs (this is a year 2000 designed in 1994) https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...20a886909.jpeg New rub rail, took 2 tries to get the color right. Turns out my boat is yellower than taco Arctic white. Can see where the tab is positioned now. New dive ladder receiver. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...71d998141.jpeg Under water lights! Don’t love the position but it’s where they could get to the back side. You can get an idea of how far my engines are set back from the end of the pad in this pic. Bottom paint touched up. I don’t love this. But I suppose if the next owner is a northeasterner they will appreciate it. $7k to remove at last quote, whole bottom would get re gelled. I don’t think this is hurting my performance. It’s the fastest Suzuki df300 Marlago afaik. But it probably is a little bit. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...305a7d342.jpeg New side letters! Some of these got the raised part blown off. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...aac0611b4.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...962c65f84.jpeg Shined up. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...aa1e27790.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...199f07e24.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...9e1043a92.jpeg Cabin updates. Ripped down the headliner, and vinyl wall liners. Had them gel the whole thing. Now it’s hoseable. Side panels are new. Not pictured are my also new cuddy cushions. Had them done in ultra leather like my old formula 😎. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...66eee76a6.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c3fab7dae.jpeg New macerator, new elbow off the discharge. Old one was a PVC elbow that broke off! What a disaster that could lead to. Other stuff, new faucet in head, all pumps rewired. Bow light quit, ugh. Also they didn’t fix the vacuuflush. Annoying. So I pretty much got kicked out of the shop at this point. I still want to update the dash to sst push in switch buttons, move the stereo HU up under the VHF. Put a cubby where the HU was. Replace one Suzuki MFD, and my digital Azimuth compass. Remove the plexi slider cover. And maybe even do a big new GPS. My old 2010 or 2012 era Garmin as been a warhorse though, never missed a beat. I hate replacing something so reliable. |
Of course my maiden voyage is a 100 mile run to Crystal river. Mostly by yourself in no mans land on this run.
Obviously one water pump goes weak. I pulled both stats and it ran cool. and then I lost a hub. Thankfully I was in the anclotes near Clearwater when that happened. Back in to the shop it goes (different one) This sure makes me nervous. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...52d0d4194.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...72c210354.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...92fb561ba.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...7d7dd371e.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...810f64909.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...fdda875be.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...9e4f81bd2.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1a4da214e.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...11e6ac531.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2f1075f97.jpeg Forgot to mention I replaced the plastic cup holders with SST last year. Had to open the holes up so that cans wirh coozies fit in these bigger holders. Of course they are cheap Chinese **** that rusts anyways. I might try to polish or one of you guys could recommend the quality brand. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4edaed9f3.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1d1d7fec4.jpeg Next up is prop testing. These are my old Suzuki 3x16x21.5 3 blades from the previous 2007 DF250s. I had cup added, which added like an inch of effective pitch. They just run great and bite like crazy but I can’t redline them. I can pull like 6000, maybe 6100 trimmed to the moon. Redline is 6300 and fuel shut may be at 6400. Now that my water tank, holding tank and reserve tank are empty, I’ll switch them back to turning in and see if I can go over 60. Previous best was 59mph. Would be nice to be able to keep up with a poker run. I also ordered some hubs to try my buddies 22p Bravos. I’ll have those tomorrow, and the old Suzuki prop rehubbed friday AM. Hopefully the 100hr service is complete and I can do some prop testing soon. To get any more out of this boat would require another repower, Merc V8s would be nice. 400 verados would really move out, maybe 70-75. But for anyone with normal amounts of testosterone, this boat is plenty fast. It’s really a nice efficient package. I can regularly get 2mpg at light loads. I could not reasonably expect to the money back from a repower. I kicked off all of the projects to get it sale ready, or to hold me over until the market chills some. If anyone wants one of the nicest marlagos around, hit me up before I start using it like crazy again 😂. I say nicest but I have seen 4-5 other total refit marlagos. I’d have to get a closer look to see if they did better than me :D |

I can't believe I missed this thread when it started.
A kid I went to high school with, his dad was a partner in Marlago. I was on some of the original boats, I'm 99% sure they even sold some to the Broward Sheriff's Office back in the day. Mike's dad was an interesting character. Always had money, like piles of cash/lots of guns and Mike would say he "won" it gambling in the Bahamas. Of course today, you might think well it was the 80's and lots of guys were in the import business. He has been dead for years, but even if you asked him today he would have some type of gruff old guy answer like "Why do you want to talk about the past?" The Miami Blue 911 is awesome especially in manual, you shouldn't get hurt owning that car. I have a 22 C4S cab now and am flying to Stuttgart in October or November to take delivery of a shark blue GTS 7 spd. If we can get there early enough we are driving it to Italy and doing the Stelvio pass (but it closes 11/1 due to weather). I'll have my build date in 2 weeks and then can hopefully plan from there. |

Very cool. Turns out my fraternity brother that works for Ford in Louisville owns a house in the river bottoms right across from Jeffboat. He thought it was so cool when we figured that out, he’s a huge MIUSA guy so he gets off on that sort of thing. The boats really were ahead of their time. I like how light and efficient they are. Too many new builders are spoiled by horsepower and cheap gas have been building wide heavy hogs. Being forced to push these boats with 225hp OBs really was a challenge. Intrepid did a 33 from the same hull and similarly light as well. Send me some pics of the GTS! I really wanted to order new and do the euro delivery but they were getting like 40-50k over on a new GTS. I may order one when the market calms down. |
