I was told they ride great in a light chop. Jay Ross referred to it as the Grand National hull. I was thinking of building/ buying something similar to buzz around in. You could cover a lot of ground in a day around here with that one. Sounds like a blast!!!

Our only hold was just wanting to assure it was 1. A real manufacture as it states it is, and 2. that it can handle a light intercoastal chop.

That's the hull design with which Jay Ross started Sonic Marine in 1976. It's got an 8' beam and most were jets, but some were built for outboards. The hull is an unusual MVP design with larger strakes and mini tunnels. It's got a wide pad to ride at higher speeds and the twin Merc., mentioned above, by Lee was done in 1990. That boat eventually ended up in Michigan and got twin 2.5 245 hp CLE offshores. 100 mph plus 15 years ago and then sold to Palm Beach, FL, and was in 2007 in N.Y. Well handling boat, and heavy layup. I bet the 1979 is at least 2,000 lbs dry and might have originally been a jet. Light chop should be fine, but not much more. Is the Sonic Marine 21 a splashed, but refined Rayson-Craft 20 GN V-bottom?
 

Well, the true original was really sick and it had triples!!! If the story is correct, then Jay Ross simply splashed a Rayson-Craft GN V-bottom boat. The first one Rudy Ramos created won the 1967 Outboard World Championship in Lake Havasu with 3 Mercs driven by Rudy, Ron Larson, and Michael Reagan, (yes that Son of the #POTUS to be). Rudy once claimed that his 20' GN V-bottom is nothing more than an Allison hull cut down and straked. Well in that case maybe Paul Allison got inspired by Rudy, since Paul's little deep-V showed up in '68. The truth is probably that geniuses think alike, and naturally always keep an eye on the competition. Would naturally like to hear Jay Ross confirm the GN story. Jay obviously always had great taste in boats and when he built his Sonic 24SS model he wisely chose the Donzi Doral hull and had a more modern deck created. Thank God the Rayson-Craft got to keep its timeless deck design though.
