I have always said that 80 kinda seperates the boys from the men, but as for respectable I think that 70 is respectable in a vee. I am just as impressed by engineering, driving and longevity as I am top end.

So, 80 is the seperation mark for vees, 100 for cats. But knock 10 mph off each to hit respectable, maybe more for cats,15-20. You gotta be able to drive 'em though

To be talked about, it's more a combination than just speed. I have a 75.7 gps 24 Outlaw that gets alot of remarks, but if one of the big cigs in town only goes 75.7, it would not draw attention for speed, but for other things that my boat would not....obviously....HeHeHe....ANd heck, my cat buddies cruise at 75.7!!!!

To be the fastest here in Cincy you better have an almost 100 vee and a 130+ cat. Cool toys here in Cincy, and quite a few of them. Not bad for a river town with a crappy football team.....:D :D

I think keeping the boat together for 5 years, never having to touch the motors other than maintenance is respectable.


I think 70 mph is benchmark for V bottoms.

Speed is more impressive than respectable. I think 90 MPH in a pleasure V is impressive. Any faster is awesome.

I think I just hang with the wrong crowd !

The slowest V out of my group of friends is 73 and the fastest is 118.:D

70 to 80 minimum, ocean, bay. HRPA reality. Yet not feel beat down the next day!

On flat/smooth water I think for our area 85 to 95.
I will let the RPBA guys answer this, their boats are much fastter than ours.

Before this thread gets any sillier, its time for a reality check. Rice Hauler's post was pretty damn accurate for the high end offshore world ( notice I said OFFSHORE, I've got a Flats boat that runs 60+ and I've been in a bass boat at 80+ ) Big offshore boats that can maintain 80+ mph are rare, but pushing one above 90 takes a ton more of everything and 100+ ,well its exponential, a pair of 1000hp drivelines cost well over $2000 dollars an hour to operate at those speeds. Don't let the magazine articles with BS #'s of "ringer" boats influence what you think is fast. 80mph in offshore conditions was and always will be DAMN FAST! JD

PS: How many 38ft + V boats are there on the Great Lakes that can maintain 100mph for more than a few miles? Maybe four or five and apparently you know most of them.;)
