2020 vs 2021?

Just wondering what the general consensus is. I’d truly like to be optimistic that 21 will be a better year but I can’t honestly foresee it. Others please share your thoughts.

endeavor1 01-04-2021 08:29 AM

It’s all in what you make of it. I do not believe it will return to normal like 2019 was, however I’m looking forward enjoying life as much as possible.

1960brookwood 01-04-2021 08:45 AM

The S&P is up 13.2% 4'th quarter and 18.4% for the year. In the latest poll of people with 1m in investible assets 70% are predicting a positive to strong market return for 2021. Demand for consumer goods remains high and real estate prices are predicted to rise another 6% with not enough inventory to meet demand. Interest rates will likely remain low for quite some time fueling the above predictions.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/21/cnbc...s-in-2021.html

As vaccines become more widely available I expect to see vaccination passports be required in certain situations.

It will all break down to your situation IMHO. Those of us on solid ground will be fine but the people living hand to mouth are seriously screwed--And as with everything lately I think your thought pattern will vary with political affiliation.

thirdchildhood 01-04-2021 08:54 AM

I remember 2020 for a great boating season. Gas as cheap as .89. Buying some nice clothes instead of going to bars, restaurants, concerts or casinos! I dread 2021...

Jupiter Sunsation 01-04-2021 10:02 AM

Covid could shut everything down again if the governors get crazy about things.

2020 was miserable for brick and mortar retailers/bar/restaurants and I don't think 21 will be a windfall year for them either. I think landlords for commercial space will have more vacancies and will have to lower prices to get tenants. Tenants will sit on the sidelines and try to time the comeback. Residential landlords will start evicting deadbeat tenants, that bad "no evictions" idea should have never been enacted.

2020 had a pretty good year with cars, 0% loans cleared out the lots nicely, I'd suspect in 21 the dealers won't load up on inventory until they figure out what Biden will do. Boats/Rvs had a good year but like cars, I'd bet less inventory will be stocked until they figure out what the new administration is going to be like. Nobody wants to get stuck with 200 pontoon boats and pop up campers at the end of the season.

Think postitive, be positive and maybe it will turn out decent............got 361 more days! :D

outta control 01-04-2021 10:21 AM

I thought 2020 was great. Except for about a month when couldn't go into gym or a bar. I worked just like normal. Business was up and we had best year ever. Gas was down. Got extra money from government to buy extra beer. One poker run I went to was pushed back a month. I missed no boat events I had planned for in 2020. My money went down in market just left it there and it finished up. Honestly I hear everyone complain but for me 2020 was great. I dont watch tv news. I dont do social media so all that BS doesnt affect me.

Bingo! One of the keys to a better life right there!

ICDEDPPL 01-04-2021 10:36 AM

Depends on what state you live in .
Red states that are open are going to be much better for peoples mental health and wallets, kids going to school, places open, gyms, restaurants etc.

Blue states is all doom and gloom from the tyrant governors, locked downs, no kids in schools , parents trying to figure out how to be teachers and stay home and earn a living etc .
These democrat states already run like $hit with huge deficits , the loss of the tax income making it even worse, how is that going to work out? . Biden probably put us into more debt when he bails out these dumps.I`m sure that`s what they`re hoping for .

There`s no way all these shut down and destroying of small businesses is not going to have long term affects .. just waiting for it to catch up .
All I see in Nazinois is businesses closed , closing, or about to close .mall strips and stores getting boarded up. It`s a $hit show and our fat a$$ governor just sits by still posting some bull$hit corona numbers.
That can`t be without consequences.

Thank You Sir

87MirageIntruder 01-05-2021 10:07 AM

You guys are correct it depends on where you live. I'm unfortunately on the "Left Coast" so we've been shut down since March and continue to be. Some gyms and restaurants are starting to open back up defying the regulations as they are about to go broke. Hopefully enough of these small businesses open up, start a revolution, and we can overcome our West Coast government. Hawaii is a disaster for the people there too, and it's not getting any better due to poor governmental management. I vacationed in FL just to get a sense of normalcy and experience eating in a restaurant again, going to Disney World, etc. The West Coast has done a good job at putting the fear of death in most people, but we're getting to the point where many are realizing they aren't dead yet so let's move on.

ICDEDPPL 01-05-2021 10:16 AM

I have a buddy who does Uber in his spare time in Arizona, he`s had a couple passengers that flew in from Commiefornia to get their nails and hair done.
How pathetic is that. Democrat tyrants

87MirageIntruder 01-05-2021 10:35 AM

I did find a loophole out here on the west coast. Indian Casinos, they are their own nation so they don't have to abide by the regulations. We've been driving to the casinos (about an hour from home) so we can enjoy a sit down meal.

Wildman_grafix 01-05-2021 11:24 AM

I still think we are going to take a hit like ICDEDPPL said and it isn't just because some of our states have shut down, this is going on world wide. Here in FL we are open but there are almost NO foreign visitors, companies world wide have closed etc.

The cruise port here has room for 7 ships at a time,,,,, nothing since March and at best will be April, maybe. That is a lot of money gone.

Its not like the US is a island, its a global economy and it will effect us as well.

87MirageIntruder 01-05-2021 03:26 PM

When we went to FL last August for Disney and Universal it was a fantastic trip, the parks were empty. We literally had no lines at all, walk on the rides. Once in a lifetime experience for us.

Now imagine CA Disneyland still isn't open and will be closed for it's 2nd tourist season. Can you imagine the amount of $$ they are losing in CA and the infrastructure the theme parks being closed is hurting?

It's nuts.

tlark 01-05-2021 06:35 PM

36 year real estate appraiser- As other said it depends on which state, if your a red state you will likely fair better overall but do be mindful of those vacating Blue states that they not screw yours up. At LOTO we have seen a surge on out of state buyers and several large condo projects are underway. You cannot find any used boats, or at least last summer you couldn't, same for PWC's On the down side I am afraid we are going to see a good portion of the middle class really suffer and the commercial real estate side as well as the effects of the wu-han will effect a great portion of the market. With the global lockout and the appearance of trends to bailout states run by morons there will be shifts in the middle class. The policies of Pelosi and Kamala/Obama there will be regulation on a mass scale reversing current policies and will no doubt effect employment, expansion and corp tax structure with negative results. Likely to see the epa strong arm domestic energy policy which will effect base costs. Here in KC large Corps like Sprint, Cerner (etc) may have to change there structure as work at home may become the norm if Doc F has his way. Bankruptcy Filings are already on the rise at the District Level here in KC and we're likely to see that translate into foreclosures in the 3rd quarter in residential properties. Low interest rates will not help those people as projections suggest 5-7% foreclosure rates. This won't be the case for some states but in many others its gonna happen. Not all is doom, however given they are carpet bombing illegal ballets in GA its a very real situation not good for certain economic demographics as the Senate can blast through anything they want.. If your above those demographics your can weather the tide, if not its going to be difficult finding traction for certain segments of the population. Don't shoot the messenger..............., Signed Armed Infidel !!!!

Interceptor 01-05-2021 07:30 PM

Being deep into retirement we went cash as covid rumbling began so we exited the year economically as we entered which is fine. Spring/summer of 2020 we had flights cancelled to two of our favorite places, Mexico and the Azores. We'll get the vaccine and reschedule those trips later this year. Enjoyed the boat all summer as our singular getaway from the choas, cell phones silent and news radio banned. Didn't see family as much. It's going to be tough for a lot of people for a long time. The economy and stock market are two different animals.

hoodoo 01-05-2021 07:33 PM

Given that Biden’s cabinet will be mostly Obama retreads, there is a strong likelihood we will see a return of the strong arm epa.
Here’s a sample in case you’ve forgotten.
Maybe someone supporting the incoming admin could chime in and explain how this is a good thing.

Yeah, 2020 is like no other!

Any of you have have family in NY, CA or just a liberal city that are barricaded in and panicking for their lives? This is destroying families more than any type of politics. My sister and husband are in Hoboken and havent left the apartment for months. I got along with her great my whole life and I swear I think she is losing her chit. She texts me and my 78 year old Dad statistics, hospital rates, death figures, side effects and all kinds of Covid stuff like 3x a week. She doesnt want him seeing his grandson and the same for me. My Dad lives 2 miles from me here in Palm Beach and we both lie to her. He sees his grandkid at least once every 2 weeks. Crazy times! Its bizzare. Its sad what people are giving up to "stay safe". My thought is that he is 78, these are diminishing returns. What if he dies in his steep? At least he sees his only grandkid... I refuse to let him live in fear, by himself. Fcuk Covid.

Dad gets to hang out with his grandkid and Junior gets to build legos with grandpa... Its a pretty simple decision when you see them together.

My inlaws are MSNBC watching Democraps that eat that fear mongering up daily.
silver lining with Covid is I didn`t have to see those idiots at any holiday this year.
It`s been quite wonderful.

My dad used to always say,
"you pick your friends, you are born with your relatives. Sometimes there is a reason you only see them once a year".

I always thought that was funny, he was not a Political correct type of guy buy his brother was a WWII vet and he was in Korea so that era of people weren't.

Yeah, and right away I dont even believe some of the media. The protestors breaking windows and breaking in on buildings in some of the footage had skinny jeans and man buns... Hate to be a conspiracy theorist but if it looks like a duck... The interweb is going nuts with pictures of protestors from Antifa riots that were there today. I dont even know why I pull up news anymore, it annoys me. SMH.

FWIW, I had two friends there today and one of them is just getting on a bus to come back and swears it was peaceful, he sent me videos of a thousand people singing the star-spangled banner. So who knows wtf went on up there.

Well, for one, Democrats are as serious as a heart attack about pushing The Green New Deal. It alone will hurt people in the boating community beyond comprehension. Ever read the document? It will scare the hell out of you because it will make us all live in California looking states where fuel prices are through the roof and scheduled electrical blackouts are the norm. If you’ve been drinking the cool-aid and actually believe this climate change crap then you are probably happy to pay the price. If you’ve been researching the issue, then you know what all this is REALLY about. Can you say – The Transformation of America And Ultimate Control? So, 2021 will not be better than 2020.

getrdunn 01-11-2021 11:45 AM

Looks like we mutually agree on some things. And yes, years ago one could easily do a little research and track the Co2 levels through the ice cores taken and tested by a number of scientists around the world. I would not trust for a second what is out there for all to see as of recent. I've always agreed and is pretty easy to see it's all about an agenda. Just like President George Bush Sr talked about NWO
"and it will happen". Came out of his mouth many times.

See what transpires the next 9 days. Either way I see it as life changing for us all but pray for the best. Some very scary and strange times ahead.

I've read this too - but my gut says we're in for much less ROI's. I hope I'm wrong.

As far as 20 vs 21 boating goes, we had a great season with few rain showers; I hope 21 is just as good - no real reason it can't be.
We also had a record breaking group at our poker run, which we feel very fortunate about.

I was so jealous but happy for all the boating community in 2020. What a great year economically and weather was near perfect here. Working to much and project on hold slightly I figured I'd wait and come out in 2021 and get the boat on the water as planned long ago. With a business in transition of a sale now nearing (3 years in the workings) I can finally be free.

I at least had the enjoyment of hearing the rumbling of the boats on lake MI and Portage from our deck. 2021 is my turn to join in. I can only take the sidelines and an occasional ride for so long.

I'm 55 years old and I can tell you what's the worst that can happen. Interest rates will go up oh, that means home prices will drop, boat prices will drop because that's a toy, camper prices will drop, new pool install prices will drop, unless you have the cash money to pay for it cash, all these items are going to go down. Why? Because people can't afford that to $300,000 house when interest rates are 12 to 19%. People lose their jobs, want out of their homes and will drop the price to get out, sometimes waking away with a small loan assuming a loss! People can't afford that 60 $70,000 boat when interest rates are that high as well and Banks do not want to loan out on toys. So yes you can get your dream boat cheaper but you better have cash and you won't part with your cash due to how bad things get. You're thinking that's absurd interest rates could never be that high. Wrong!Biden already advised he's raising taxes and will do so with interest rates. The wealthy elites love this time, they pick up cheap times and foreclosed homes too late or sell them when the market gets back on its feet. Rentals will go up and the elites will rent them. I remembered in the 80s when home mortgages had assumable mortgage rates because the interest rates were so high and if you can get an assumable mortgage on the house that you like that was in around 9% you were doing great! All that was during the Carter Administration, look it up.

hoodoo 01-11-2021 06:37 PM

Back to the wet blanket economy of 08-15 or worse depending on how giddy they get. The committee chairman’s will be the first clue.
Interest rates won’t the problem though, the federal government can’t service the debt without low rates.
