yes sir, from Biscayne Bay all the way down to Gilberts is approximately 45 minutes to an hour. On smooth days will run between 90 and 110 the whole way down there with no issues. Then will turn around and come back at the same speeds. 👍🏼

That just blows my mind!!! Absolutely amazing!!!

personal opinion for everyone who has cash to buy whatever they want. but having had both, a 36supercat with 700s, and 40 roadster with 850s and then wrightperformance 360 with 400s, and new wrightperformance with 450s on the way, the move to OB's was everything i hoped it would be. no crawling around in bilge as others have said, ease of use, put way more hours per yr on 360, fuel efficiency amazing, never was worried about something blowing apart, and they always worked, always ran up to the same RPM's. remarkable what high performance boating has become.
that said, I/O's are tanks and of course ride quality is different and more stable. its just what you are willing to trade off for the fun you have.
i realize i haven't said anything new here compared to what others have said, so sorry for redundancy

Couple of questions regarding the topic ...

1) Has Mercury strengthened the gear case so you can run it harder and longer ? I’ve wrecked a few over the years with my 300’s.

2) At what length is outboard vs inboard an option ? Would say a 308 / 318 Skater even handle good with IO’s, or do you need a 36 footer ?

Skater30 had a FANTASTIC 30' Skater with big naturally aspirated big blocks and Arneson drives and it handled great. It was much better in rough water than our 30 Skater with 300s. Its his fault we had to buy our Skater and couldn't be happier. That lil midget smurf knows his boats, doesn't mean we have to like him...........

LOL .... Dale’s been pretty damn friendly when I’ve asked him questions in the past

Mike,

The amount of gear surface on the new 5.44 cases Vs. the 3L stuff is tremendous. They are not bulletproof by any means but WAY stronger then the old stuff.

I knew you would make it safely Dean. Congrats again.
Mike,
I could get three years (around 300 hours) out of a set of Mercury gears in my 2.5 liters. I changed my gear oil every other outing. I had an 85 mph cruise speed, which I generally ran at in my twin setup. But..... the clock was ticking. I don't know if cryogenically treating the gears would get more time out of them. I have no experience with the 3 liters Mike. A good LU guy should be able to set you up so you can beat on them repeatedly.

Hey Bob,
Thanks, home safe and sound and she tucked away under brand new full cover.

At 4300rpm, or roughly 95-98mph, my 700 Mercs MAYBE got 1.4mpg. That is 1100 rpm short of redline
At 95-96mph, at 5000-5100rpm, my 450r motors are getting 1.9-2.1mpg. That is 1300-1400 short of redline

My 32 was pretty much the same as your boat with inboards.
