This is definitely new for us and now they are calling for 100% chance of rain/sleet tomorrow but a high of 34. Not quite sure what thats going to do with the 4 or 5 inches of slow/ice we already have.

Some Diesel 911, more treatment and thank god for a heated garage and all was good the next day in the -20* drive home from work Mon night. Its crazy when it was 0* today and it didn't feel that bad. |

Curious ... how's that water situation ? Is there a lot of broken water mains ? Services ? I can't imagine the water mains are very deep in the ground down there . Our mains and house services are usually a min of 5 feet deep to stay below the frost .

[QUOTE=thirdchildhood;4777814]Oh, nooo. I keep a log. First outing last spring was April 8 and it was 68* and sunny! 2019 was April 22 and it was 70 and sunny. Final day last year was October 9 and it was 77 and sunny![/QUOTE
Thats good. In Idaho it’s more like Memorial Day weekend and that can be dicy some years. They can have a really nice day or two in April but they sneak up on ya so it’s hard to take advantage of them. |
Our water lines (service lines) are, maybe 18" below grade. Mains are deeper, but we are experiencing low water pressure due to main breaks. Even the sanitary sewers are freezing shut.
Yesterday morning, the low was -17F. Last nite another 5" of snow. Rolling blackouts likely. Fear of loss of natural gas service due to frozen well heads. As I stated previously in this thread, if gas service is cut, the gas company is required to physically inspect each residence prior to turning on the gas due to pilot light issues. With 500,000 people in our metro, that task could take weeks. |
Although it's cold in northern Michigan we still lack safe ice to sail iceboats in many places. This happened recently on Lake Leelanau.

Google the winter of 1977-1978. Epic.
