Its sunny here today. Snow has melted. Should hit around 40. Normal weather for our area this time of year. The boat show is usually on and its a light jacket and jeans type outdoors event. It was cancelled this year do to covid.

Our water lines (service lines) are, maybe 18" below grade. Mains are deeper, but we are experiencing low water pressure due to main breaks. Even the sanitary sewers are freezing shut.
Yesterday morning, the low was -17F. Last nite another 5" of snow.
Rolling blackouts likely. Fear of loss of natural gas service due to frozen well heads.
As I stated previously in this thread, if gas service is cut, the gas company is required to physically inspect each residence prior to turning on the gas due to pilot light issues.
With 500,000 people in our metro, that task could take weeks.

Im sitting here in a panic looking at all the ice on the roofs of my boat house, awning and camper cover. Of course there is almost no pitch. Why would you need a lot of pitch in Louisiana? It never snows here. Praying everything melts before it all collapses. Starting to hear stories of roofs collapsing. Oh well. Nothing I can do about it now.

Yup. I was a teenager here in the middle of Illinois and it was brutal. We had a ranch house that I was able to walk up onto the roof from a snow drift at the back of the house. We took trucks out after the V-plows finally cleared Rt 29 off and the walls of snow on either side were over your head in many places were the road dipped down.

It was brutal Monday night/Tues morning.
On Sunday when it was about -5* my Duramax's fuel gelled up and had to get towed home. It was treated, but obviously not enough. Some Diesel 911, more treatment and thank god for a heated garage and all was good the next day in the -20* drive home from work Mon night. Its crazy when it was 0* today and it didn't feel that bad.

Was a student at GVSU then--snow covered most of the second story windows in the dorms along the ravine . We rode snowmobiles through the "s" curve in downtown GR and spent several days delivering medication to those that could not get out. The next Christmas was shorts weather!
