Talked with a buddy in Abilene Tx last night, he never lost power, (Admits he is 1 of the lucky ones...) he said (6) people have FROZE to death there in the Abilene area, Horrible!

I agree I hate this weather anyway and now with an infrastructure that doesn't do well with it plus the huge population increase here and our massive heat waves, I'm shopping for a whole home generator in a few months when this calms down to run off my propane and support a well. As of now we have been with out water for 6 days. Lucky for us as we are in a semi rural area and have stayed with power but have issues during other parts of the year especially with storms. My main concern with events like this is the plumbing damage (water damage in the the house) and destroying pool equipment as a lot of my friends are facing right now. Some of them will have damage in the 10s of thousands some pools might be a total loss (I know first world problems). Retirement will be in Florida as I have said for years and this just confirms it.

There's a reason I've lived here my whole life but that red is starting to turn more blue in metro areas. It's amazing that everyone wants the government to help with this situation. Some minor prep that a lot of us did goes a long way. Like shut the water off and drain if the powers out, amazing how main people don't know how. Or have firewood just basic things on hand.

A week ago I left Cape Coral in the mid 70’s and landed in Iowa at minus 12 (real temp, windchills in the minus 30’s). Yesterday we hit 20 and it felt like a heat wave!!! Looking forward to when we can at least winter down there,

S Florida was HOT this week, like upper 80s all week. This morning it was 61 and clear blue sky. I'm likely headed to Southport Raw Bar for lunch today, perfect weather for sitting on the back patio there!

Was the forecast botched or nobody paid attention?
A lot of people think weather is just that stuff outside their window, until it kicks their ass.

Nobody paid attention--or cared--this was forecast 2 weeks out. Here in the North our wind generators turn year round and natural gas pipelines work in sub zero weather???

“So much of this was avoidable,” O’Rourke said this week on an interview with MSNBC. “Going back to the deregulation of our electricity grid in Texas, which has created an incentive to actually not weatherize or protect against these events.”
