Some of the speculation has been covered in the Scarab forum, here's one of the threads http://www.offshoreonly.com/forum/sh...threadid=35583

Gone for now, but hopefully a resurrection one day.

1984 Scarab S-Type, t-454/425s, Kaama Surface Drives. Best speed since changing engines was 77 mph on GPS going upriver. (But as TinkerBoater says, it may not be broke, but it is still fun to tinker with.;) )

I ran a 38 Larry Smith all kevlar race boat. It had triples on it with no interior but a three person stand up bolster. I'll see if I still have some pics. The boat was owened by Mike Ragen , President Ronald Ragen's son. He set kilo records or something running up the mississippi and a offshore run up to washington from L.A.area. Mike J knows all about this and I maybe when he gets back from the race he'll enlighten us

Didn't they just stretch the old nova hull to make the early scarabs? Look to the origines of the nova.Allen Brown?

Very distasteful post for this thread. People are trying to talk about the history and legacy of the brand, not get your opinion of whether or not you like them.

The boat (Smokin' Joe) is for sale. Donnie Waddick from Wellcraft says it could be had for a heck of a deal. This boat has triple 700 cube motors and is a 43 ftr. Just for FYI.

VelocityMike 11-21-2002 10:57 AM

Smokin Joe is not located to far from me in Delaware. I have seen that boat in person as well as running and all i can say is wow. I was sitting on the beach on day and heard it coming before I could ever see it. It used to have triple 1100 in it but last time I talked to Donnie at Wellcraft he said that it had one blown up motor and the owner had just bought and brand new Excaliber. How much were they asking? Does anyone have any pics? I am going to look for some later.

Does this count - 1984 Wellcraft Excalibur 27'. Just bought it and is still in storage in Canada. Can't wait to get it to the island and make some noise.

Let's see...... It floats (supposedly), you can drink beer on it, put money into it, pee off of it....................

Sure what the heck..........scarab 26 mentioned one earlier.

Nice boat............I agree withthe swim platform. If you wanted a swim platform, I'd look at a tubular one. Or just leave it off.

bermudaboy 11-21-2002 03:13 PM

The guy who owned the boat spent money on the tabs, external steering, drive shower, etc.. I really don't want to cover it up. I think that the boat would look relly updated with a fairing instead of the windshield. It goes pretty good - 76mph in freshwater @ 5200rpm, that's what really matters to me. Hopefully will be even faster down here in the salt.
Andy

Strip Poker 388 11-21-2002 04:35 PM

bermudaboy what year is the boat?

bermudaboy 11-21-2002 05:36 PM

The boat is a 1984 that has had everything redone or replaced.
