In Marion , Iowa, they did a search to figure out a mascot name to replace "Indians". After several months, they decided on "Mavericks". Well, they just found out that the nickname Maverick comes from Samuel Maverick, a rancher that did things his way. Well, it just came to the top that ol' Samuel had slaves (this was over 200 years ago), so they dropped the name and continue the search. You just can't make this **** up.

My high school, Milford High School, in Michigan, changed it's sports name from Redskins to Mavericks years ago. I wonder if it will change again now!
