Merc dealers? Need 2018 or newer Merc 6.2
#1
A friend didn't winterize properly-as I am sure a lot of people will be finding-
Boat is a 2018 SeaRay w twin 6.2.
He is telling me that Merc started making their own blocks or something that makes them "Special"???
Needing a short block or complete drop in would be even better. Boat has all the Puters and joy stick chit.
Hearing "Good Luck" from a few sources. Maybe next winter lol
Any ideas- suggestions?
Thanks

I replaced my twin Merc 350s with 350s from these guys a year ago. (no compression on multiple on each, and oil was milkshake like in one).
I have 100 hours on them in the first season and they've been good to me.

Looks like they have the 6.2, which is a lot more $ than the 350 for some reason...

I posted this link before; Mercs new 6.2.
So yes, they are a clean sheet Mercury design.
So all the "Vortec" and pre Vortec links are a no go.
Other than that, if that's what he's hearing. Might be an off season unfortunately.
I'd assume finding any at rebuilders would also be scarce as to the newness of them.

Looks like the cheaper one is the GM engine and the more expensive one is the Mercury engine, over 4k more for the Merc, ouch.

I thought that closed cooling came standard on the new Merc 6.2l?
But maybe not?
The raw water side of the cooling system can be affected, including the heat exchanger, but if caught in time, I would have thought that the engine itself could be saved?

They pressure tested oil cooler and it was still good. Has to be a crack in water passage somewhere.
The mechanic has been in contact w a couple sources so hope to hear something soon.
And as a friend here stated- The damn Winterization sticker is right on the top of the motor lol.
Crazy part is Insurance Paid claim.
