You can buy a better boat for less money, I just saw a 95 38 Formula in the classifieds for less than you will end up spending, remember, time is money.

At least they scratched out the 30 yr old registration numbers on the hull. So what is the consensus? Is this a real Cig? I agree with the above posters, budget 80-100K to get this thing back on the water. It will need engines gone through, new drives hull completely gutted, all wood replaced, full interior, every cable, wire and gauges replaced, 20K in paint and the list goes on and on and on.

How long on trailer? Get a scratch rake dump some gas in carbs see if it starts and seals up? I love Cigarette boats but looks like small blocks with TRS not easy to get parts good luck?

For what the restoration would cost you could buy a nice completed boat now and be on the water Memorial weekend.
Thanks for the feedback. |

The way it was being described I was pretty damn sure that it was an original (first run) Cig 28SS and lo and behold ..
Unquestionably it's a mess but could it be a diamond in the rough and not really as bad as the present condition reflects ? For those in the know out there , were the vintage Cigs prone to more , less or the same chances of rot compared to other brands under the same usage and maintenance conditions ? This is what I was thinking. it may be a diamond in the rough! could be much better than the current condition reflects. since it was removed from water way back when its been in heated storage. its only recently last 2 years its been outside. |

Two conditions make projects doable....
#1 you already have a dependable boat to run. #2 something inherently special about the project boat. Once I get the HIN and more information I'm hoping there is something special about it! but we will see. the problem is I was love struck as soon as I seen it..... DOH currently have a 2 stroke jet boat to rip around on,, was thinking such a project would be nice as I like old CIG styling. |
