Write me a check for $20k and let me kick you square in the nuts. It will cost you less, hurt you less, and the hurt will go away faster. Most project undertakings like this never see completion after many hours, many dollars, and much emotion is spent on it. My guess is that you are attempting to get into boar ownership less expensively, and that is probably not a great way to do it. I have been through a couple of refurbs (not to this scale, though) and know that the hundreds and thousands just keep rolling out of the wallet.
that said, if you have the time, the devotion, and the cash, go for it! It would be awesome to follow along in a refurbish thread. Good luck! (Oh yea, DO NOT assume that the engines are anything but junk unless they are really checked out) Good Luck!,, |
How long on trailer? Get a scratch rake dump some gas in carbs see if it starts and seals up? I love Cigarette boats but looks like small blocks with TRS not easy to get parts good luck?

At least they scratched out the 30 yr old registration numbers on the hull. So what is the consensus? Is this a real Cig? I agree with the above posters, budget 80-100K to get this thing back on the water. It will need engines gone through, new drives hull completely gutted, all wood replaced, full interior, every cable, wire and gauges replaced, 20K in paint and the list goes on and on and on.

For what the restoration would cost you could buy a nice completed boat now and be on the water Memorial weekend.

If it were me, and I have done some decent projects. I would not pay much for the boat, if anything. I would first get it running and drivable, clean it up to see how it looks, (the interior looks bad, but not torn or ripped) assess rot and what needs replacing. Is the transom/stringers moist, wet or rotted? Then, run it and see if you enjoy it and want to put the work and money into at a later date. If it has good bones go for it, if not don't waste your time.
Remember, a project like this is how people never boat again. |
