a hacker did this, and it just shows how outdated our power grid is, he gave access to that back to china... it just begs the question why these important areas to Americas stability are so easily accessed by bad actors.

as I understand it colonial was using a very old version of microsoft crash and burn or some such version. made it easy to get into as the security protocols were not very current. if you research how edward snowden got into and downloaded all the government secrets you will see that all these 'geniuses' out there are smart in some ways and beyond stupid in others.

My wife worked for 35 plus years for a large natural gas distribution company. She is puzzled as they had two separate stand alone programs for the pipe lines. Problem with one...shut it down and use the back up.

I dont disagree, however it goes to show how complacent US companies are combating theft and problems such as these... for Christs sake people still fall for the Nigerian prince scam... there is no company in America, including the federal government that shouldn't be investing HEAVILY into cyber security... the bad guys are making trillions... I think this is the tip of the iceberg... There was hacker a while back (few months) where someone got into a water supply and increased the amount of a chemical, that would have killed millions...

I agree. I literally 20 minutes ago had a conversation with the VP of a local bank that said the same thing. Everyone is using on line banking. It is a constant fight he said trying to combat hacking. He advised to use more then one bank in order to have a backup and to print your statements weekly for a record. He said banks getting hacked is way more common then people know. I just recently had to upgrade my credit card machines to remain PCI compliant aka insured. We are going to start seeing more and more of this especially with this weak administration that’s in office.

I tried 2 stations last night and 2 this morning. Finally went on the Military base and they had gas. I have heard a lot of other people around my area saying they have seen lots of stations out. Central Chesapeake Bay area Maryland.

Wait...that Nigerian Prince thing isn't real ? Asking for a friend.

But more seriously, our enemies don't fear us, and our allies no longer trust us. That's not good.

We're on the West side of MI and while I don't know this for sure, I was told by someone this morning that stations in the SE corner of the state were experiencing lines and shortages.
