New stock 454 Long block vendor suggestions ?
 

Scored a cylinder in my buddies FWC 454/ 350 horse Crusaders in his 42 Silverton cruiser down here in SW Florida . He is wanting a Jasper but they are 5 weeks out and want $5800 for what i have read is a mish mash of parts and a 3 year warranty.

My buddy is squirming at the price plus shipping compared to Jasper.

Flagship is right nearby in Punta Gorda but only deals with boat repair facilities . not the public. They sell long blocks crate motors also and would save on the shipping but wont give me a price.

Debating tearing down the motor and seeing what Flagship would charge to rebuild it, but i assume it would be on par as the new crate motor.

Any other ideas for reputable remanufactures or crate motors down here?

As you can see I only want to deal with this nightmare once. Still have to get it out of a 21 inch wide hatch/door.

Wait. You pulled a motor from an air conditioned engine room / compartment and your complaining ? :wink lol

Tore the head off after hearing a clacking and this cylinder testing low for compression . Cylinder is like new so I found a almost like brand new exact Oem # piston and rod on eBay and was going to slap it in and run it .

He cooked the piston hotttrodding the 2000 hour motor from some bad gas and too much load while out for a spin with a boatload of girls onboard.

All other cylinders tested 135-150. Boat is a designated low speed trawler now I told him.

Put my borascope down the other cylinder bank for chits and giggles and found a severely scored cylinder that showed good compression .

Its his winter liveaboard that doesn’t go anywhere but around the corner to the Gulf.

Hey we May be old and dumb, but we’re not Barbaric Performance Boaters.

Though we did did lose our access to the ice machine at the bar and the stereo quit working when I disconnected the motor harness.

By the looks of the piston in the cylinder I thought was the bad one we shut it down just in time .

Im almost tempted to pull all the pistons and inspect them and try to dig up another OEM GM piston to slap in the scored hole after running a light hone through it.

I’m not worried about low compression in the one scored hole , just don’t want a piston that looks like the one in the pic unglueing .

Obly need 1600-2000rpms out of it from now on.

It would still be less less work than stripping the motor and getting it out of the salon .

Surprisingly the head that ate the piston is rather undamaged though I’ll pull the valves and post pics tomorrow.

Not even a ridge on any of the cylinders. Bearings on bad piston looked as new with no wear. Not bad for 2000 hours pushing a 25000 pound boat for the last 36 years including a 1500 mile almost wide open trip down the Mississippi from Lake Michigan to Fort Myers Beach 9 years ago.

I tried to get a boat load of girls but could only get 22 on my Carver once. Room for at least 10 more.

What Gen is the engine? I can’t tell by looking at pics. I have pistons and rods doing me no good. Let me know what your looking for. If I have it it’s yours. Yes MichiganMortz is for real. I have purchased from them. They are basically just drop shipping them.
