Winch Strap.

What does everyone recommend for a winch strap. Mine is all sun faded and looks as if it is deteriorating. Not a big boat, 29 Velocity with a single but prefer a little overkill. There used to be someone one on OSO that would make them but I couldn't locate him.
Thanks,

Padraig

On the boats I've had, it's pretty much been just the standard 2" wide X 20', 5,000 pound strength strap. Dual-drive on the winch is preferable but not required. I believe you can get a variety of gear reduction ratios to make it as easy as possible to winch up.

Hoping for something better then the West Marine standard strap. Don't need a winch just new strap
Thanks

I used to make them but don’t anymore. Looks like Amazon has several to choose from and some made in the USA. Most have a 10,000 breaking strength which is stronger than your winch.

Most local “rigging” shops can make you a winch strap also if you’re not an Amazon fan.

Cut the hook off it and reverse the strap on the winch. Retie the hook on with a Bowline. I am always more afraid of the hook failing and biting me in a stressed winching situation.

I ordered my winch strap from the the below place. I got a 10K winch strap, 2" X 20' from them and they will make them in a variety of colors for you. It's model 1807. Custom length to your needs.

Look on the winch and it will tell you a working load. Then go to somewhere like etrailer and try to match the working load.
I just bought one a week or so ago from there.

What do you do for a hook though?

I use Rodsaver 10k rated with loop and hook. They're typically around $25.

Further down the page is the 2243 with loop for the winch and a hook for the bow eye.

I had good luck with these guys when I was setting up my enclosed car trailer. I've had them for about 7 years and no issues.

Cross strapping = bad.

I was a convert until I watched this.

I get what he's saying, but like he said at the end of the video, cars are different. Lower to the ground etc. I'd rather risk a 10k strap snapping than have my 69 bounce side to side going around a pothole filled off ramp. I have a pic somewhere of a Chevelle in an enclosed trailer that had flipped on a highway. Chevelle was hanging from the floor which was now the ceiling by its crossed straps. There's positives and negatives from both I'm sure.

Man, you're good! Even I couldn't tell she was an L34 from that pic. ;-) Yep, I'm a jackass of all trades. Too many damn hobbies.
