That's the cruising RPM that you boat at so you spend 90% of your running time at that RPM just maybe that increases the odds to break at that RPM. Just a thought.

No I usually run around 4k boat runs mid 70's there, had some first timers onboard so was running slower

I had 2 go at 4500rpm in flat water. Bravo's are like time bombs, you know they are going to go you just don't know when. I keep my Boat US paid up for unlimited towing.

Yeah, was just about to post the same thing. Also, at cruise, maybe due to having more hull in the water creating more drag?

2 times mine went at cruise, 1 stuck in gear. I never lost one coming on plane or WOT. FWIW, I think its better to just scrap the case after any gear failure. I swear they fatigue and stretch. Newer non molested drives always had more life than previous drives that failed and were rebuilt.

I've had the same experience. In fact, last time around I was told no more rebuilds, as the casings were too worn.

this is only the torque peak at wot and that rpm

Rinky-dinky drives are The Devil's invention, except on Rinker Boats?

What boat? What engine? HP? What drive?

I had a Rinker 236 Sport Cuddy at 3750lbs dry with a 435HP 454 and a Bravo1 drive that I flogged like Molly for ten years without literally ANY required maintenance other than regular PMs until I sold a perfectly functioning boat to a good friend who I still boat with. We skied countless hours behind that boat, which requires full throttle at launch with a 200lb man dragging like an anchor behind the boat. Never had that first issue with the drive.

Like you said, this question has a ton a variables. Fill us in on a few of them.

Thanks. Brad.

Rinky-dink drives, well most drives sure are, like Allan 'Brownie' Brown calls them, "The Devil's invention". That's why performance boaters now are getting more and more accepting of outboards. Fixed and

articulated surface drives were some of the answers to weak traditional outboard drives. While KAAMA, Arneson, Trimax, Weissman etc. offered more reliability, they are expensive, since you get what

you pay for. My budget is nowadays limited, and I've reached the age where I don't have the patience with stuff that breaks all the time, so I gotta stick to outboards. On this Fountain 27 Fever, I believe

the advice to get an MDC DriveGuardian for a couple of grand and the right prop for your type of boating will go a long way since you already got a good IMCO lower. One additional piece of advice,

ALWAYS get on plane eeeaaazzzy, and let the high-performance Rinker crowd have their few minutes to shine, and then pass 'em by when the sea is getting a little rougher.

Nah, use them like they were meant to be used! Friend of mine has bought 3 brand new Fountains. Last one was a 42 that he put about 190 hours on after 10 years yet he waxed it 2-3 times a year, changed fluids/filters to keep it perfect. He finally sold it, because it wasn't getting used. His regret? Never doing ONE poker run despite FPC being less than 15 miles away from his dock. He was always scared someone would bump into the boat, walk across it with shoes on or some other dreamed up catastrophe! The 2 travesties in life: getting what you want and not getting what you want!

No need to abuse the equipment but exercise the offshore boats accordingly!

Man, that's a stretch from my quote, I said I don't BEAT on my equipment, running hard is not the same. My boats have been used for their purpose, not abused. Sheesh...
