I have been a long time reader of the forum…I just got my first “go almost fast” boat. One hangup I never considered past $ was that every insurance company required that I had owned a boat within 20 mph of the new boat I purchased. Didn’t matter what I had captained, I had to own and insure it. Speed was not the only consideration…it was speed and replacement value. Had it been expensive and slow, no problem…fast and cheap, maybe. My boating history and my insurance company having insured my other boats for the past decade with no claims simply didn’t matter.
So, consider that you may be self insured until you get some experience. I think the school will help you with insurance but the 20mph thing was a hard point. Best advice in here was buy a 35-40 foot 80mph boat and use it for 6 months. If you are committed to this big boat and lifestyle, that is a short time investment and you’ll need to have something to jerk around on while this big bad boat is being built over the next 2 years lol. |
There was a nice Formula 292 FasTech listed here on OSO a couple of days ago. Looked beautiful by the pictures. Also said he put it in OSO classifieds.
