NEO Oil Winterization
 

Here’s the scoop guys…we just had our drives rebuilt by AADS. We use AADS NEO oil. We love it…drives seem to run cooler, oil doesn’t dis-color, etc. great product.

now for the question. This year we only put on 15-20 hours. The oil still has a lot of life in it. Likely another 20-30 hours. What should we do…

1. dump it anyways and put new oil in
2. keep the oil in and run it next year
3. Something else

we were going to obvious check for water in the oil. Assuming it’s good, are there downsides with keeping used oil in drives over long storage periods. Given how little use is on the oil…I’m thinking no. Wanted to get opinions before doing something stupid.

Just as you mentioned, No downsides unless bunch of water in it.

Personally, I would drain and refill as you are starting next year off on "0" hours and fresh oil has all the highest anti corrosion properties that benefit the internals for sitting through the winter. (15-20 hours is pushing the 1/2 life for your interval as you conveyed)

Oil is cheap, parts/labour/downtime isn't. Refill it now and it's one less thing to consider for 2022.

I'd leave it for another season after checking it.
A friend of mine was using the Neo Bmax oil in his Bmax drives behind 750's and was going 50+ Hrs and said the oil still looked like new.

Why not ask All American Drive?

he is the one who suggested leaving it. He has had customers put 60-70 hours on the oil and it looked brand new.

he said they would filter it thru a coffee filter and keep running it.

Gear oil through a coffee filter? That’s got to take a looooong time.

Pay yourself to watch that strain and you just bought a fresh gallon of gear oil
