I have always been a Mercury fan when it comes to big outboards, but those 425hp Yamahas with the Course Hold, Heading Hold feature are really impressive, that technology is something else at work, especially in the large fishing boat applications.

Yamaha may be at the front of new technology, but technology isn’t everything. From their website in Thailand, you can still buy a 2 stroke outboard, but you can’t get EFI or oil injection. A trusty old carbie motor than runs on premix fuel. They’re still very popular over here because they just keep going.
E.G. 200HP of old school simplicity for 399,000 Thai baht. (About 13k USD)

The 2 stroke deal interests me, I’m thinking about buying an older Aussie ski/performance boat and fixing it up. Rather than run it with some worn out 30 year old engine, or power up and try to make it run with new boats, I’m thinking make it period correct and perfect. I can even put on a brand new from the factory 1988 model engine!!!
