Default Key West Poker Run Weather

Looking at "Windfinder" it appears that the conditions may not be great next Wednesday between Miami and Key West. Winds are forecast in the upper teens and rough water to go with it. Maybe somebody with some experience in the area could chime in? Is there such a thing as running on the "inside" of the keys?

Miami to South of Marathon the run usually runs the backside. There is a route that stays backside from there to KW, but it is a bit longer and you really need to stay in the channel in a few spots.

I’ll more than likely bring back the boat Wednesday to Key west from Lauderdale. I should pass Gilbert while you guys are having lunch and will go outside at the first inlet that lets me.
im not fast 36mph but I cut a path, it’s 70’ and 100,000 pounds….

Key West is 100 miles out in the ocean, it’s usually rough, in the fall / winter. Nice run on the north side to Bahia Honda, then rough for 30 miles. This our 21st year, it’s been calm 4 times in that span. It looks to be a east wind and following sea. 3-4 Hawk channel.

As everyone else said, you can run on the “inside” from Haulover all the way down to KW if you want. We usually cut over to the ocean at the 7 mile bridge or Bahia Honda, no matter the ocean condition and head to KW.

In 2019, Stu led a group down the inside south of Bahia Honda to KW. Call FPC and see if he’s doing that again. I’ve heard it’s tricky and you have to know where you’re going.

it’s a little early to be looking at next weeks weather in South Florida, that can change a day before we go.

We are leaving Wednesday around 10AM out the Hillsborough inlet - run in at Stiltsville then out again at 7 mile bridge or Bahia Honda.
