290 Sea Ray Sundancer
Looking at a Sea Ray Sundancer 290 with twin 4.3 Mercruisers. Seller wants 27,500 and won’t come down. One of the engines is missing. I’m pretty ignorant of boats and their value so I’d like to hear some opinions. Is it worth the 27,500?
the rest of the boat is in pretty good condition. |
what year?

My brother in law is selling his 2005 260 Sundancer. Single engine in very good condition if your interested.
Located long island ny |
Thanks but I’m hoping to find one here in Texas. The one I’m looking at is a 1999
|
That’s strong money for a 99 with a missing motor. One of my customers has an 06, on a nice aluminum trailer he’ll take 28 for. Needs a fuel pump and a battery charger right now

Seems pretty high dollar for a 1900's boat missing an engine and a small engine at that. Keep shopping.

15 years ago I was buying/selling boats and flipped 3 of these 290 Sundancers. I really like that model. $27K seems high considering a missing motor. You'll likely spend $10K plus sourcing an engine and having it installed.....assuming there is nothing else to address. In that condition you can't test alot of things that could also be wrong with it. To me, the boat isn't worth anymore than $20K as is. Tell the seller to install an engine and get it to pass a sea-trial/survey and it's worth $30K (or a little more).

IMHO that is premium money for a boat with two WORKING engines. Look at it this way...this is a Project that you buy, then as t500hps notes, you then have to find an engine and install it. LOTS of hassle before you can get it into the water. You say the rest of the boat is "in pretty good condition"...is that "for a 1999 model" or is it simply in good condition, something you'd not cringe to show someone?
I'm sure you've looked around at BOATRADER and BOATS.COM, etc. This is a popular boat and depending on how it's powered and overall condition, the pricing varies $30K or more. Is this a freshwater boat? |
Thanks for the advice. That’s what I was thinking but I wanted to make sure.
I appreciate it. |
I'd skip that one. Missing engine? lol... ok... did it like just get tired and jump out somewhere?
