Headliner Help
#1
Having a Hell of a time getting to come repair my fallen down headliner. Hoping maybe if i have it prepped someone will be more willing to squeeze the job in.
Is there a good adhesive remover for this stuff?
Im not confident that i could do the reinstall myself. I assume a foam is glued on and then the liner is put on that?

Make sure you cover everything you don't want to ruin. The glue gets on everything, You can use lighter fluid to get it off with ruining what you're cleaning. Get some good scrapers to get the bulk of the glue and foam off. After that I used a variable speed angle grinder with a heavy wire cup on it to clean the surface. Get yourself a good respirator for the next part. I used fabric and adhesive from DLT, good stuff. Sailrite also has some good products and watch their videos on how to install a headliner. I also recommend getting a heavy duty 4" paint roller to get the fabric stretched out evenly without wrinkles. I am glad I did it myself, not as hard as I thought and I did a better job than some that I have seen. I put a fan in the door and had removed the cabin vents. I used a real good LED lantern to light the cabin while I worked, plus my garage is real well lit so lighting wasn't a real issue. I fixed a number of things I didn't like from the factory and updated all the lighting to brighter LED's. PM me if you have any questions

lots of good air flow and no electric tools. years ago our shop was next door to pantara. one day we hear a loud boom and turns out one guy had just glued in the headliner and a few minutes later another guy went in the cabin to install something with an electric drill. the blast blew the deck off and sent him to the hospital. not trying to scare you just make sure you take precautions as the fumes build up without realizing how much.

make sure to get a respirator rated for the chemicals. They are not all created equal! First headliner i did in one of my very first boats i used a respirator i thought was good enough.....the fumes went right through it. Wife could smell the fumes on my breath the next morning still!
