i wasn’t being an ass or ignorant whatsoever. I’ve met Ron once and he was as cool as could be. as Matt identified above, he always has boats under build. if a buyer comes across he sells it. I doubt he has the financial means he does by losing money. Originally Posted by TrippM

at the same time, his investment says a ton about: the quality of the boat, quality of the builder, and quality of the overall end product. if anything, this deal, to me, puts a stake in the ground that Cig is a real player in their entrance to cats.
as for the 22yr old CEO… that kid has likely been exposed to more business deals and high pressure engagements than most 50yr olds. does he have the experience of time? no. But that kids bench is deeper than any of our contact lists on our phones or friends on Facebook. i say good for him for helping to keep the performance boat market relevant for the next generation.
you old guys need to fly to Florida. too much complaining 😂

I wasn't saying anything about you. I was just asking about his motivation for buying a dozen. Now that you and a few others have explained that he acts like a general contractor to get the boats in the pipe for new buyers, I think it's a nice program he put together. There used to be businesses called “Dealerships” that did this.

He bought build slots, not boats. The build slots become investments. He can choose to sell those build slots to new owners that want to pay (more) to move closer to the front of the line, accordingly.
MTI is out several years on their 42' & 50' CCs.
They are also out several years on 39' Cats.
MTI is working on doubling tooling so they can pump them out faster, but that also takes time away from the production line; plus real estate costs. It's a big gamble all around.
NorTech is in the same boat. They are out several years on 39' & 40' Center Consoles.
You now have people buying one boat, and also buying a slot, so they can start planning for their NEXT boat. Those that can, do.

What’s the current standing of this situation? With the Cigarette/Doug Wright deal falling through and the statement above that these would be built as Cigarettes, I would assumed that the 12 Doug Wright Cigarettes that were originally ordered will not actually be started or are they going to be built as Doug Wrights?
