Anyone know what the asking price was before it got tore apart?

At one point it was listed at like 4 or 5 mil. Sat at that asking price for 20 years.

I always wonder about stuff like that, why not lower it. I bet the scrap price was much lower.

Thats the gas turbine sitting right there in front of the twin MTUs 30 million torn apart in two days and I was standing in the engine room a month ago floating on the water. SO SAD !!!!!!!!!!!

Dan, How much would it have taken to just get it running? What was the asking price when you were on it a month ago?

wasn’t Vern somehow involved in keeping it “running” as well?

Norman offered it to me just to get it out of there, The major problem was where to put it and the cost of the restore. It was in bad shape it hadn't run in over ten years according to the yard manager. both water jets tunnels had been repaired and not the right way. All the body work on the sides and deck was coming off. The complete interior had to be removed and a complete new interior would have to be built . The birds had gotten inside at some point and trashed it the deck hatches had been leaking for years it was very sad to see as I was on the boat in San Diego back in 1994 at the kilo's. Just a rough number was somewhere around 5 million to start and as we all know that number would have gotten much larger after we started. Very Sad Day for me ! Regards Dan

This article came out in the local paper yesterday. I thought it was one of the better articles. Writer got ahold of Norm Gentry and really dove into the story instead of just the typical surface crap most of the articles on it are.

Sad to hear that a buyer was trying to get things together to save the boat and only needed a little more time but the harbor was like, NOPE!

"This is what happens when boats exceed their lifespan." No. This is what happens when you knowingly neglect and leave an old boat sit.

I was thinking the same thing when I read that part. Boats don't have a "life span" if they're cared for properly. I think what he was trying to say is this is what happens to boats when they're neglected and they get past that point of no return, so to speak. Which is usually when the repairs and refurbish is going to be more than the value of the boat essentially.
