Chicago boat show and a dinner anyone?

Is it that time already? The Chicago boat show runs January 1-5 for 2003. I thought I would see if anyone would be interested in an OSO gathering in conjuntion with the show. Maybe somewhere within a cab ride of the show? I plan on being away for New Years but would be happy to help plan if anyone has suggestions. Maybe we should just have an OSO New Years Eve/Boat show party

Looney Tune 11-23-2002 03:19 PM

Are you going by boat or car?:D :D :D

Smitty 11-23-2002 03:31 PM

I'm in!!! Last year some OSO'ers met up for the show then went out for Pizza afterwards. Maybe we can do the same or something like that. Maybe set a time to meet at McCormick place and then go from there???

Let us know

How you feeling these days???

stevel 11-23-2002 05:57 PM

I'm in for Saturday or Sunday.

Steve

Intolerant1 11-23-2002 06:45 PM

Feeling better, thanx. Since Im not working I have time to organize somthing. Last year I bumped into a few members but I think somthing more organized would be better. Is there a place for decent food at McCormick Place?

Waterfoul 11-23-2002 07:26 PM

Keep me posted too.

obnoxus 11-23-2002 10:12 PM

Sounds good,, I know Candyman and us will be there

Ribs within walking distance

Is there a place for decent food at McCormick Place? [/B]
There is a rib place walking distance that is incredible. It looks like a dumpy little place, but the walls are lined with famous people who have been there. I would only go in the daytime since it has the kind of window that they put the food in and spin it around made out of bullet proof glass. I don't remember the name, but if you walk towards downtown it is in a dumpy strip mall the first that you come to. It is only a half block from McCormick Place.

MnFastBoat 11-24-2002 02:12 AM

I was there last year and met a few people
Missed the dinner :(
When I was talking with Rich from Innovative marine he was talking about how the vendors are hating the new years opening :(
I was actually thinking just last week about going.
Maybe doing Chicago for New YEars sounds crazy enough :)
But have no idea who, what or where to go.
Make if to the show on the first and count me in.
I have to be back home to work the night of the 2nd :(

MAKDADDY 11-24-2002 07:43 AM

Hey
Keep me in mind, if I get all of my projects done by years end I may find time to go this year.
I would love to meet everyone for dinner.
Perhaps at Ginos for pizza?
Or even at Ed's thats always a fun place.

Hey Obnoxus if you are going, it would be nice to meet you before I get the boss up the river.

candyman35 11-24-2002 08:41 PM

Gino's, Ed's, The Hard Rock Cafe all sound good to me. I think I'm going on the first but wouldn't mind going back for the weekend also. You guys pick a day. We can all help Obnoxus pick out his new toy! :p :D

Dan

obnoxus 11-24-2002 10:14 PM

Yep,, we will be there ,,, its a yearly tradition,,, our group keeps getting bigger and bigger,,, usually end up going more than once just to go with everyone that wants to see it,,,,,,,,,oh darn,,,do I HAVE to go look at boats again !!!!

obnoxus 11-24-2002 10:14 PM

Candyman,,, yours is as old as mine buddy !!!!!!!

Intolerant1 11-24-2002 10:16 PM

I think we stand a better chance of getting everyone together if we meet at a food place in McCormick...if possible. Theres got to be decent food in that building. Keep it simple.

But he told me it's longer.

Uh, or are you talking about his boat?

Quiet Storm 11-24-2002 11:00 PM

Chris

Sounds like a great idea. I know a guy that works at McCormick. I'll try to find out if he knows of any place to eat there.

Roger

Thats between him and I !!!!;) :D

Cord 11-25-2002 08:12 AM

We'll be there for the weekend.

Breathe Later 11-25-2002 08:43 AM

There's NO decent food at McCormick. Even the food court at the major trade shows only offer the usual overcooked burger type stuff at exorbitant prices. McCormick's pretty far south of the good places in the city. Best bet would be to take 5-10 min taxi ride north to something like Ruth's Chris, Chicago Chop House, Mortons, etc. There's also Riva on Navy Pier, which is a little closer to the show.

D_Casten 11-25-2002 08:56 AM

The bar at the Hyatt is right by the entrance to McCormick. We had a great time in there last year with a lot of the folks running the show booths. They're ready for some drinks afterwards. (If you've ever run a product show, you know what I mean)

Doesn’t compare with the restaurants named above but would be a handy place to start.

stevel 11-25-2002 10:25 AM

I agree,

No decent food at McCormick Place. It is a quick cab ride anywhere we want to go.

I could go for casual - Lou Malnaties, Ginos, Houstons etc or upscale dead cow from Ruth Chris, Mortons etc.

I think Gino's or Lou's has a private room we may be able to reserve?

Steve

obnoxus 11-25-2002 10:47 AM

DOWNTOWN HOOTERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

stevel 11-25-2002 10:50 AM

I think we have a winner!

Cord 11-25-2002 12:15 PM

Mike-what was that pizza place we went to? Uno's?

Wally 11-25-2002 01:11 PM

I'm in for something! :D
the downtown hooters is small.....if tis anywhere near lunch time we wont be gettin seated anythime fast. :( And they dont take Reservations of any kind.
Uno's has great pizza! Not that far from Hard Rock either if they dont have room for all of us.

Intolerant1 11-25-2002 04:36 PM

Ok, how about we meet at the food court before the show for a dry burger and an overpriced beer. That way everyone can meet up even if your not up for dinner later. Then we can do the show. The group will get split up as people have different interests so we should plan on dinner elsewhere later.

cougarman 11-25-2002 05:43 PM

Boat show?

Where is the boat show held in Chicago?
Also do they carry the hard core performance boats?

Grand Rapids used to carry Cigs, Outerlimits,
and a few other great ones. Past five years
it's went more and more to Cabin Cruisers &
Sailboats.

Thanks for any input
Cougarman

chromecat 11-25-2002 06:21 PM

Don't forget that the Metra runs underneath of McCormick place and goes downtown... I am from central illinois and take the metra from university park to the show then downtown for dinner. Lots of great places within walking distance and the weekend pass for the train is $5 per person.. can't park anywhere for that... and it's easy.. let me know if anyone is interested and i'll post the link to the schedule.

Wally 11-26-2002 08:34 AM

Re: Boat show?

CougarMan, its held at the McCormick place right on the lake front. And as for hardcore boats.....kinda limited but they do have a few. Last years they had Cig, Black Thunder, Awesome, Sunsation, Baja, and PowerQuest. I think i may have forgotten some but you get the idea :D But yes the big cruisers are the main attraction at this show. :(

Hey Hugh - you know if I might be able to hook you up with a certain someone....:D :D :D
Sorry - couldn't resist...:p

MIdnightRider 12-03-2002 03:01 PM

Some of us from GR are planning on coming down this year. Keep us on top of the date that most will be there. I heard a rumor that Candyman had made a killing during Halloween this year and was buying all attending OSO members dinner. Let me know if I need to leave my money clip at home! Midnight:cool:

Intolerant1 12-03-2002 04:46 PM

The down side is that Candyman has been hit with a lawsuit by the parents of a child with tooth decay.

MrCIG 12-03-2002 05:08 PM

We'll be there. Let us know where you want to go.
I'll talk to the Hammond gang we all usually go together

Sure thing budddy!!

It would be a blast to take Laurie out :)
I got along with her great at LOTO. :)

Just Kidding.

did you get my return PM?

as far as the OTHER certain someone I wasthinking that if I knew ahead of time who it really was then we should have played around with her. You know, her stype of games.
Wonder what she really would have done once she met my fat arse :) lmao
Wonder what she really would have done once I dropped her off at shooters to lightn the load for the radar run and then never return? Hell I was suppose to come pick up another OSO meember after the sunday run but with the elongated Miss Bud holdup for 2 hours I forgot about it and then remembered when it was to late. I still apoligize for that :(
But seriously Craig, in all kidding around I knew something was fishy as all hell with her, it was funy as **** when Scott and Bobbie mentioned who it really was lol

Tell Laurie I said Hi
