BMAX upper gears
#1

I searched and found sone folks on here have used their drives with good success. Since I can’t find the XZ gears I’ve been looking at some other options. Does anyone know if these are just Bravo gears or actually made by BMAX? If they are BMAX they appear helical, curious if I’d have any issues mating them to a Bravo setup and lowers?
I plan to give them a call Monday but am impatient like most.

Thanks,
Todd

have seen you post on many of the forums…what power and boat are you running? other members will be able to chime in an assess whether you will have issues running standard bravo, xz, or xr’s.
they may say you need something more like a b-max or imco.
but we need to know the specifics

I had them pull the drive since it was in the shop because it’s a new boat to me and I noticed a little drop in the fluid reservoir - was hoping just some seals. Got into it and the XR gears were pretty shot so he recommended a rebuild with XZ gears for a little better longevity.
They’ve been waiting on gears and it continues to push out month after month. I’ve got a house rented and already paid for the Cannonball run in June and if I don’t have gears in a few weeks, no way the boat will be ready.
I was able to find the lowers and clutch, but they’re not doing me any good without the uppers. Hence, I’ve been searching for a set of XZ uppers. My thought was maybe I could find a different gear that would work in my setup.
I know someone has a beautiful set of XZ gears collecting dust I just need to find them 😂
thanks

Honestly that’s not a bad consideration at this point.

Pretty much all gears with the exception of custom ones (IMCO, BMAX) are on back order right now. We're a Merc premier dealer, Ive had sets of XR upper gears on order since Sept 2021. The current ETA is October 2022.

Another question here.
From what I've read there is only one XR upper ratio. If I were to match that with my XZ lowers (15/19) that should give me a final ratio of 1.50. Are there any special parts required to mate the XR uppers to XZ lowers? Will the XZ clutch work for the (861781A1) - I think it will.
Thanks,
Todd

The case doesn’t matter, it’s considered an X case, you need a 32/27
tooth count X upper gear set to maintain 1.5:1 ratio, there’s about 12 different thrust races
used to set gear backlash, you would probably want the start with what you
have 1st to determine how close you are,
the clutch is the same
FWIW, unless you don’t mind
replacing gears in a short time
frame, I wouldn’t use the XR upper gearsets
