Do you tow or dock slip?
 

How many of you folks tow your rigs to the lake or sea?
How many keep your boat in a marina in water slip or dry storage at lake.

For those that tow, what is your travel time to the water?

Which is more cost affective?

I have a dock, but since our ramp is about 300yards from my house. I usually tow because i hate cleaning a lot. Lol.

I stricktly towed my boat when i had it. It took me about 30-45min depending on trafic to get to the closest water. Keeping it a slip didnt make sence to me as in Chicago it would have cost me $2800 for the season for a 22' boat. And for the amount if times i got it wet i couldnt justify the cost of that....plus having to either pay extra for cleaning the bottom or do it my self every so often....and being stuck to pay extra for on water fuel at the marinas as well.
I liked having my boat at home....i could work on it when ever i wanted to. Fill up on cheaper gas. And take it where ever i wanted to go boating. If i lived on the water it would be a different story! :D

In the Midwest we used to tow when we had several small boats (from a 11 Hydrostream tunnel to a 22 DONZI ZX) There were several lakes we could get to, from door to door and in the water they were from 45 min's to 1.5 Hours if the ramps were not busy. This was when the wife could back the boat off and come back to the ramp when I got there.

When we moved up there was only 1 lake, 1.5 hours away and she could not drive the boat or the truck. PITA for me. We rented a slip and put it on a lift, I could not believe how much nicer that was. Drive any vehicle or motorcycle down to the lake, lower the boat and go. It was a covered slip with a patio, we had it set up with ice maker, refrigerator, electric grill lights etc, and slept on the boat. Spoiled us.

Now in Florida. its on a lift behind me, so nice. While I am flushing and washing the wife is putting stuff away and then we jump in the solar heated pool.

I have a place on Lake Huron and the Harbor is 2 miles away so I tow, plus I can hop on the inland waterway in 25 minutes. My boat is kept in my garage so it stays super clean. Plus I buy Tier 1 93 octane Premium for less money than 89 octane Marina gas. I feel a lot better knowing I don't have to worry about storms, theft or damage from Bone head boaters. After watching a few of those videos, I will never keep a boat in a public marina.

Mine is on a lift in front of my house on a Inland lake. I also have a ramp about 5 minutes away so I pull it out frequently to clean, gas up or trailer to Lake Erie, etc.

Towed for 9 years. Slipped/towed for about 5 years after that. Last 10+ years slip exclusively. Don’t even own a trailer now.

I strictly tow. In traffic, takes me 40 minutes to hit the Punta Rassa ramp. I keep it in my building at home. It is nice to clean & maintain it 20 steps from my house. When I lived up North, slipped my then boat at Dock Of The Bay in Sandusky. I definitely used it much more when I kept it in the water.

I store my boat on the trailer about a mile from the ramp, live about 30 mins from there. Drive the truck out, hook up to it, drive the mile to the ramp and drop it in. Take it out drop it at the storage and then go get something to eat. I wish we could do a slip, and we eventually will, but Ill want a lift day one of having a slip so its quite the investment.

If I had to tow a boat, I would not boat. Been at marina covered slip on a lift for 30 years. It’s nice not having to drive the truck because the price of diesel is so high🙀 I pull it out end of October and put it in its winter home until spring.
