Boat over at 20MM LOTO?

Hearing a boat went over and sunk in front of Surdyke. Hearing a WP but don't trust people knowing their boats. If true, hope all are OK.

F-2 Speedy 07-24-2022 10:55 AM

My daughter and bf have been there since Friday, said very light traffic on the lake must be the heat, hope all are safe in this accident

JPEROG 07-24-2022 09:03 PM

I was out all day and was also with Justice from Performance this morning. Never heard anything about it. Seems I would have if was a WP. My house is at the 21 as well-lots of traffic yesterday and moderate today.

Been home most of the day, Surdyke is around the corner, haven't heard or seen anything? That being said, Last night numerous Water Patrol with their lights on went flying down the water about 9pm, but they were already past Surdykes when they went by...

Well, guess it really did happen. Obviously not a WP though. Glad the guy was OK.

Beat me too it, was on Lake Happenings this pm. Huh, I was at home and on my deck at that time, didn't see or hear anything???? Weird??? Interesting or strange; it didn't list the owner, type of boat or background in article. Not even showing on weekend water patrol report??????

The article is pretty accurate based on what I know about the incident

Pappa_Bear98 07-26-2022 07:49 AM

Blown away by some of these boats sinking. This one according to the story, split in half while doing a sweeping turn.

I just input LOTO and saw all the incidents, this sinking hasn't been added yet. But I noticed a 20 yr old girl was injured TWICE in 2 weeks, once she got hit by a dock pole or something while on a boat attempting to dock and then 2 weeks later she got hit by a jetski while riding another jet ski. That kid needs to take the rest of the summer off!

Jupiter Sunsation 07-26-2022 10:22 AM

Sorry the guy went from having a nice day to swimming. It was very cool he was concerned with keeping debris out of the lake.

Smarty 07-26-2022 10:22 AM

Curious as to the brand, length and power of the boat in this thread. This is not a random question.

Seats look like a west coast brand. I was wondering if it was an open bow which contributed to the quick sinking.

That could be, but I understand that the entire cap actually came loose from the hull. That would make it go down REALLY fast!

HOSSMAN 07-27-2022 09:19 AM

Man I hope it wasn't that boat, he just got it, had one before with over 1000 hours so plenty of seat time. Owner is a pretty cool dude anytime we have seen him.

JS,

I saw it on PB's thread as well. Pretty sure it is. Green stripe. Trailer rash under the bow tip.

Thanks. Brad.

Anyone know if you have to attempt to recover the boat due to possible environmental impact from fuel/oil leaks? I remember back in the early 2000's when that 24 HTM rolled and disintegrated right in front of us on the spectator line at the Shootout and I believe the guy wanted to retrieve his engine (which went cartwheeling down the lake...crazy to see). If memory serves someone stated it would be near impossible to recover it due to the fact that the trees were just topped in that area before the lake flooded and it would be a maze of tall stumps down there in 60 - 70 feet of water. I've seen cruisers get anchors tangled up in that area back when the Shootout was in front of Shooters 21 and have to cut rope/chain.

OzarkKing 07-28-2022 01:47 PM

NOT MY STORY BUT HEARD FROM SALVAGE DIVER TIM "The Walrus" (while saving one of my phones for the nth time):
(paraphrasing)
So this really nice newer boat is running in the Shootout back when it was at MM 21. Boat breaks apart (as mentioned above) and engine goes into the deep. Me and my crew waited the requisite time for it to become abandoned property then went looking for it. We had a fairly large search area and it was on the main channel. Well, we ran a very long and deep conductive wire off the back of our boat and sunk it to the bottom. We created a perimeter and started trolling deep with it - (*me looking at him quizzically*) - Oh, we hooked the other end of the wire up to our boat horn such that whenever the wire on the Lake floor encountered something metal on the bottom, the horn would go off and we would investigate. Found the engine fairly easily, brought it to the surface but kept it below water. Contacted the previous owner who was ecstatic and told us where and when to meet him at his dock. We went over there (with engine still submerged) and he could not thank us enough. Just when he was thinking aloud about how much to pay us for our services/tip us for recovering his engine, we gently let him know that WAS his engine before it became abandoned property and now it was our engine but we would sell it to him for a reasonable price. He didn't pay new engine price, but he did pay new engine salvaged from the deep price.

Lake Tow and Atlantis diving floated it up this morning and and brought it to shore. Wife noticed them out there about 7am and when I left at 9 they were pulling it to shore. Took a picture but with my phone it is a bit to far away.... Looking through the binoculars was cool to watch.

Was it the 300 Water Rod in question?

bajaholic 07-29-2022 04:16 PM

I am not sure if it is the Water Rod boat. Someone who knows the guy should be able to answer the question? That being said, it sure does look like the same boat...

Here was from this morning in round 2, lifting the main part of the hull from the bottom and picture 2 is on road this am as well, appears to be yesterdays parts?

Crazy how the top cap completely separated from the hull in one piece, something seems odd there from all the other wrecks over the years we've all seen no? I knew it had nice power in it, only saw a few pix on FB from when he had just gotten it. Bummer of a deal.

I do not know him personally, but I've ran along side him in some real snotty LOTO Shootout water and several other times over the years in his previous boat. Previous boat was the same Make/Model, with a 525EFI/Bravo and I'd never seen that boat get out of shape in the slightest. The boat that sank was fairly new and had a 700/SSM6. From what I know and this is not 100% fact, it spun while making a midrange speed wide turn, and possibly hit a wake while spinning, which caused it to grab and then roll. To my knowledge, there was no hull failure prior to spin/roll.

Where did that happen to have that much marine growth on it in <2 years?

Craney 07-31-2022 08:29 AM

Can you rebuild it, that’s a shame not many 20’ around.
