When you make a run like this, do you have an 'escape plan' of some sort planned out, as in knowing where safe harbors would be along the way, in case it got chtty?

I know very little about your part of tne world but with help from Google Earth……..
If I’ve got this right, you’ve launched in Lake St Clair and blasted straight through the middle of Detroit on your way to Lake Eerie, and back, splitting two great countries all the way. What a great run, so many nice boating adventures waiting ahead. 🙂

For those that don’t boat Erie regularly it’s a different kind of lake….think giant shallow bathtub. Everything depends on the wind and can change in 15 minutes. She’s a bumpy ride sometimes, but when she lays down and is smooth as glass she rocks. I remember one trip back from PIB where I had throttles set for about 55mph (gas saver) and drove all the way back without a bump to be found. Glad you had a nice run. I used To have a ‘32 Sunsation Dominator that we docked at Swan Boat Club (right next to the Fermi plant). That shot of Detroit Light brought back some fun memories. I’m getting the itch again pretty bad as I get closer to retirement. Won’t go with the big boys again….but might sell the wife on an older ‘25 Aggressor. 😊

The only time we are far from a safe harbor is crossing the end of Lake Erie. I have ridden out 6-8 footers once at idle speed. We could ditch at Middle Sister Island if need be. I also have VHF, cell phones and GPS. So far we've been able to ride it out when it gets bad. I also have tow insurance through BoatU.S. I'm pretty well prepared and safety is always first but there are lots of times I wish I had a bigger boat! The Donzi eats 1-2s for dinner though.
