Latham Marine.

No luck getting response calling or email (I`m trying to give you money but okay)
Who else is dealer ? I need pricing and dimensions on clevis ends... seems to be top secret, maybe I can get the FBI to do a raid to get paperwork and pricing ??
Teague, CP, Diamond, etc etc nothing

the deep 09-09-2022 07:51 PM

Yea seems to be going around.......

bencini231 09-09-2022 09:04 PM

Wow.. I've always had really good luck with Latham on anything I've needed.

bajaman 09-10-2022 06:33 AM

It's that way everywhere...crazy.

TeamSaris 09-12-2022 09:13 AM

No issue contacting them from here. We're a dealer though.

ICDEDPPL 09-15-2022 11:31 AM

They ask me for pics so they know what clevis to sell me and then use it against me, then try to sell me a $3600 tie bar. Yeah hard pass. Not paying you triple of what it cost to make one.
I`m not reusing any of the short tie bar components .. just need 2 stupid clevis ends that are 1.5" thick and have a 3/4 hole, is that really that hard ???
Unbelievable these A$$HOLES.
I hate Latham.
Good luck to anyone who has to deal with these morons.

Dan,

Send me a PM. Send me the parts, cover the cost of materials and shipping, and I'll make them for you. Seriously.

Thanks. Brad.

I was thinking go to a machine shop and have them made. That's your biz isn't it Brad?

Wildman,

It is, indeed. I've been making widgets and wonders for almost thirty years and been in my own shop for closing on ten.

I don't want to make a habit of doing pro bono work, but Dan seems to be in a bit of a pickle, and he seems like a guy I could hang out with (I like his sometimes snotty-ass attitude), so I thought I'd throw him a bone.

Thanks. Brad.

lol, thanx Brad .
I`m not looking for a handout and would be more than willing to pay to have it made. As a matter of fact I will not accept anything for free but if you could help a brother out I would appreciate it . I know Izoom mike is local and he could also do it but he won`t take my money lol (I`ll have him tap the tie bar since thats a heavy piece)

Couple of ways to skin the cat ....
I ordered this piece to see how it would fit but it is an automotive part and the sleeve is 5/8" so it would have to be opened up to 3/4"
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a4334b4893.jpgand the sleeve is 5/8

Ideally I would have liked to purchase these but apparently screwing those into a tie bar is just so difficult Latham can`t sell them to me.
I mean it makes sense , I went to buy brakes for my truck and was told because of the liability they can`t sell me brakes but would be happy to sell me a whole new car !!!!

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...183f8fe855.jpg

option 3 is just machine this part longer :

SB,

All good. If Dan’s got options, they’re his to exercise. I’m not hurting for work, and wasn’t campaigning for any. I’ve got all my nephew and I can handle at the moment. But I’m always available if somebody needs something, too.

Thanks on the pics. Again… Not showing off (maybe a little) or campaigning for work. Just wanted Dan to know he would get what he was expecting.

Thanks. Brad.

not defending or blaming but I have know Bobby for a loooooong time. I have broken IMCO tie bars before and bent others and with the world what it is the first thing that happens when something fails is Morgan and Morgan knocks on your door (ambulance chasers for those that dont know them). so they sell you a few hundred bucks of ends and the tie bar snaps and since know one knows who made it they go after the only name shown and they get hit for millions. I can understand their point, doesnt make it right or wrong just understandable.

Compedgemarine,

Yeeeaaahhhhh..... I'm assuming Dan won't remember where those parts came from, just the same as he's assuming I'd make them so that they won't break. 😎🤐

I fully agree with what you're saying about the scabs we otherwise refer to as lawyers, but I doubt he's gonna get any sort of liability promises from any custom machine shop, either.

Thanks. Brad.

I get it and not saying Dan would be the one to sue. lets say he goes out and the tie bar snaps, rolls the boat and is hospitalized or worse. along comes family member X and next thing you know leisure suit larry shows up. Latham has his name on all his ends so he takes the hit. Bobby builds a lot more stuff than boat steering or boat related so I can understand his position. with the way courts are now you can be sued for things you had nothing to do with so at some point you have to set the rules. it makes it hard for everyone and I deal with it all the time. simple things become an ordeal because no one wants the take the risk.

Compedgemarine,

Yup, yup. I can’t argue with a single keystroke there at all. And wasn’t suggesting Dan would be the one to sue, either. If I had any doubts, I’d have kept my mouth shut.

Lawyers ruin everything.

ICDEDPPL 09-15-2022 07:20 PM

I`m sorry I cant justify not selling a part because you might get sued. That`s the dumbest thing I ever heard. It`s a TIE BAR not a helicopter rotor.
Might as well close down every industry then. Sorry can`t sell you that furnace part cause you might blow yourself up or die in your sleep from CO. Can`t sell you that supercharger what if you go too fast and kill yourself ??? The examples are endless.
On the same level as shutting down the country over a 99.8% survivable flu.

Anyway thank God there`s still reasonable people on Earth with a brain in their heads like Brad.
BTW beautiful work Brad.

Smarty 09-15-2022 09:06 PM

Scabs?
Ambulance Chasers?
Lawyers ruin everything?

The Morgan and Morgan reference,.... you guys are being tough on me today/tonight (yes I am a lawyer, and yes I work for Morgan & Morgan) - I have no opinion on the price of the parts or the offer for the parts to be made in this thread.

Seriously, Scabs? That is a first.

compedgemarine 09-15-2022 09:31 PM

it's a cold cruel world. no offense meant but I you have to admit there are a lot of lawsuits out there that should never be brought. as for Morgan and Morgan I have no personal experience with them but I hear their commercials 50 times a day and a lot of the ads come across that way to use common folk. are all lawyers bad? no, I have several that are customers and while I may give them a hard time on occasion they do good work but like every industry there are good and bad. lawyers are just an easy target sometimes and some of them deserve to be. again no offense meant.

Latham is the epitome of the best of the best. They've never been the cheapest. Just the best. Bobby has been doing it forever and still is. Cut them some slack.
Simply put, that's what made your project worth it to them. It's the same reason we won't dyno stuff we didn't build. Eventually when there's a failure, everybody will blame everybody. Want an engine tuned by us? We'll build you one. Want us to band aid your stuff together and make it "better"? Find someone else. Essentially, what they're saying is to do it right and have everything match, here's what ittl take. I don't see the reason to jump on the internet and run down a company that's been in this business going on 50 years. Then again, I rarely see the reasoning for running down anybody on the internet.
Carry on.
Oh and for the record, our raceboat has IMCO steering on it. Also great stuff. You'll likely get the same answer there. Ill look for the new thread about how IMCO sucks.

Oh okay so if I call your shop and wanted to buy a I dunno , head gasket, you`d tell me no sorry not unless we build your engine? That`s a good analogy.. your analogy doesn`t hold water. In my business I don`t install customer supplied parts but I will still sell them anything they want without an install. 2 completely different things. My experience was bad so sorry I came on the internet and told my story, I should just shut my mouth and take it like a good peasant huh? Shut your mouth and take it this guys been in business for 50 years !! , Unfortunately I have testosterone running in my veins and crap like that gets to me. I don`t have your millennial passive attitude and low testo. Just because someone has been in the business for 50 years doesn`t mean they`re good.

Wally 09-16-2022 11:09 AM

Nice work there Brad, you guys have a cnc? We got a Hass VF2 with a 5th axis just before Covid struck here to replace an old 1991 model...dont remember the name of the old one......watching that thing move is just mesmerizing. :D

I never understood that reasoning either.......i had a furnace blower go out in the middle of winter about 3yrs ago. Call the number on the furnace (it was there when we bought the house) and the dude comes out and gives me a price of something stupid like $800 to replace the motor. It had to be a "Carrier" item, nothing else fits he says....my red flags go up when i hear things like that cause he knows we are in a bind. I tell him ill think about it and give him the $50 service call.
Tell the wife to break out the electric heater and stick it in the basement so heat rises and im taking the day off! I rip that furnace open, get the motor out...look at the frame size and hit the Grainger website....20min later i have the same multi-speed motor with same shaft length and bonus it draws less amps so more efficient! And its only $75!!! Call them up and its not at the store by near my house but they do have it a little bit farther north....hit the highway back home in under an hour. Slap the "Dayton" motor into a carrier furnace and she's been purring ever since.
Mixing parts i believe would automatically absolve the maker cause its easy for them to say "well it wasn't used with our original parts"
If i somehow got a set of Dodge brake calipers to fit on my chevy truck and then had a brake failure who can you sue? No one cause neither was designed to have those parts used together. Im sure Larry the lawyer will try but i doubt anyone will get anywhere with it...

Good job, my guys carry 3 blower motors on their trucks, 1/3, 1/2, and 3/4 HP . All GE motors. Use em in any furnace with a multi speed 120v motor. As long as it`s not a ECM motor I can use those anywhere , sometime they take a different mount . No big deal.
Latham been around 50 years so they must be great ?? Biden been a senator for just as about as much... better not talk about the terrible job he`s doing cause after 50 years he`s got his $hit together and he must be awesome at his job right!??! :lolhit:
