Have a feeling that the Cutwater brand boats might be layed-up a little too light, and are making sacrifices as to both materials and construction to be true serious coastal cruisers. The new 288 Coupe for example has a 30-foot hull with a 10-foot beam, 24 degrees at the transom, and still tops out 45 knots with only twin 250 O/B motors.

Quote from their brochure: "High-quality HD Gelcoat featuring best in-class UV resistance, combined with a vinyl ester barrier coat to provide enhanced longevity and peace of mind. To add to that, we use woven roving, a material well-known in the boating industry for providing rock-solid strength. The continuous woven fibers make our running surface extremely rigid and durable. To create a hull that is strong yet lightweight we use custom-fabricated gimbaled hull molds, which allow the resin to be precisely distributed. Once the hull is formed, it is bonded with our fiberglass stringer system that becomes the rigid backbone of the boat. Foam is then injected into key areas of the stringer system to reduce noise while underway. With the stringer bonded to the hull, the cabin can be built upon this foundation."
