One thing you can do to check the valve job and guide clearance is to start the valve into the guide let it fall on the seat. It should bounce off the seat. Rember too loose you will be the only one that knows. Too tight every body will know.

fbc25el, They are definitely too tight. AFR says .0012 - .0016 and if they are being used in the marine environment it's up to me to make the clearances correct. My original guy never even checked one.

If you were closer to LOTO, I could hook you up with a place that builds marine engines exclusively and they usually have one in work every day.

When it comes to marine builds, you have to be willing to travel. At least in my parts you do.

That song brings back some memories of a 45 Searay that used to hang out in front of the State Park in Holland back in the early 80s before Rap Crap became popular.

The guy had 4 giant concert speakers on it with what must have been 20,000 watts of Amps. He would Rockout the whole park for a few hours every weekend with good music , I remember that is right when MJs Thriller came out and boy was that album clean and he could crank it up hard.

I had a good experience with Dave at Wesco. He’s 30 minutes away from you. I broke a timing chain at LOTO on a 800SC mill Eddie Young built for me. I would of had Eddie do it but he couldn’t get me in as he was working on other projects. This happened in the middle of the Summer. Dave said he could do it within a couple weeks. He squeezed me in and got me back on the water fast. I asked if we could add power while he had the boat. He said do you want to go boating this year or start experimenting with mods. He really put things in perspective for me.
