I recently commented to an auto mechanic that the mfgs were making the new cars too complicated so we/the owner can’t work on them.

He corrected me and said, no, their making them so only the dealer can work on them!

And that is even debatable. Found out that one major US OEM has the tech replace whole units, no repairs of something. Mirror motor goes bad, swap the whole thing.

I spent quite a few years wrenching in GM dealerships. They didn't want to take the time to troubleshoot or repair anything. Get it in, put a part on it and get it out the door. We will worry about it next week if it isn't fixed seemed to be the motto of all of them.

Me too, in 2 of them, but not GM. But one was that way, my last was not. Toyota recognized us in the 2nd one and would come out sometimes on 1st year production vehicles that where having some issues to learn with us. Wish more dealerships and manufacturers where that way.

Probably less expensive for the manufactures to rig with O/B's vs I/O's.
