One of the orig pixs above is me in Fri t of two V-12 Mercs.

Pretty sure I saw wake boats there too.

But, I would say show was:

25% pontoons

25% fische botes

50 % over priced day boats that do nothing for me.

I won’t be back next yr but I’m not a real target for the exhibitors anyhow.
That's how the Detroit boat show went 20 years ago. It always was a disappointing event unless you were looking for a pontoon,18' fish boat, jet ski or cruiser. But than that's the market and what you see on the water mostly.
EDIT
Just read Speed on the Water and American Custom Marine has a booth with one C.C. boat at the Detroit show.

Learned my lesson last year after paying almost $50 for 4 beers.

Funny how everything old is new again...

At least they were 16oz.

My plans for the show unraveled early in.

Back in the good ole days of the show, we’d have a few couples of us, hit the show, spend the day frequenting the full bar, looking at stuff none of us could afford, used to have a flea market then too, then to our rooms in Cleveburg.

Finish it off w/a hotel shuttle to the “Flats”!
When they were a thing.

This yr, my buddies wife bailed at last minute, so my wife did too.
My buddy who drove, was also packing, so could not drink.

Ugh.

Did not go as planned.
Miss the flats. Many found memories (and stories of those I don't remember)

Never pay attention to what da beers cost at da bout show. Be a coozie whore.

May have been mentioned already but saw a poontoon with a 600 on it. A poontoon… Surprisingly didn’t have a price tag on it.

I also won our annual bet of the highest priced brah boat there (wakeboard/surf boat things that look like they’re out of battle star galactica). I guessed 405, I was under by 10g’s. Top speed of 38mph. But sales guy said can carry 19. I threw up in mouth.

And somebody will buy it.

I can see the attraction to the C C’s, I’ve spent some time on them, driven them, but the wake boats….. everything they do sucks, except for the 1
thing they’re designed for.

We had my nephews surfing behind my brothers 2400 regal for about
$400k less

Thanks for the photos with people as a reference, those are MASSIVE! I only get to see the piddly little ones at the nearby ramp, not too much motor needed for inland water fishing. Those monsters are bigger than a phone booth . . . See what I did there, outed myself as a boomer.

The Merc V-8 450R’s are bad SOB’s but that’s it for performance.

Everything else is way bigger/heavier.

A buddy just bought a 28’ Skater w/twin 300 hp Verados (in-line 6’s) that he is putting 430 hp tuned in.

Swears they’re bullet proof, even at that level.

In my world, being a life long 2 stroke OB guy, they stop working for me at about 30’.

A 33’ Powerplay w/twin 450’s would probably be a low 90’s boat.

They have another 29 Velocity into the low teens.

Outerlimits still offers some BAD MF I/O hulls. There are a few others too. Superboat has a few 30 foot I/Os on order right now.
At the end of the day the I/O boats pretty much always win on the race course. Better balance, more weight, etc. We discussed this a few weeks ago on here comparing the 450 Cats to Supercats.
That's not to take anything away from a twin engine outboard boat. I loves me 2 2.5 OS bolted to the back of a narrow beam rocket. Bungees for the real look. Some of the most fun Ive ever had was a 27 Activator with fresh 260s. Nothing barks like those!

So if I walked into a Cig dealer a week after the show and paid the sticker price of $1,499,000, they’d be making an extra $300,000 out of me? Ouch!

Lovely boat but I’d be thrilled just to have the 300K to throw into a boat. 🙂
