i put a big outboard on an old mfg 16 footer one time it was a smooth bottom rounded on the sides and only a little center keel it was an evil handling beast it would just rollside to side and almost roll over cornering thats how i learned what lifting strakes on a hull do!

A certain brand of boat? I have to say Carl's Donzi 22 with the HP525 is a beautiful thing. Sharp
looking, nimble, and does in the 80's. What the heck is wrong with that? Small to mid-sized Bajas,
PowerPlays/PowerQuests, and Formulas were always considered the standard speed boats in
my area. The funny thing was is that when I ran with them my 72 MPH Cobalt bested them most
of the time. Does that make my Cobalt a "speedboat"?
I agree with you they are a beautiful thing. "The" classic looking hull and I see nothing wrong with that. No one else has had the long term success that they have had with their small boat production. Who wouldn’t want to take an afternoon blast through some decent chop at 50 or 60 miles an hour in a 22 Donzi? I grew up doing that in a 60's 16’ Donzi and loved those boats. When the 22 was introduced it was no doubt at the top of the speedboat food chain. Posts 18 and 36 have some examples of speedboats.

It's an old fashioned gentleman's speedboat with timeless lines. That's why it's great to see the hull update. If you were resto modding an old muscle car, you'd probably put modern brakes on it, better suspension etc. I love the old boats, making them better is great. They should've updated the bottoms on all of the Classics years ago, 16, 18 and the 22.

My neighbor just took delivery of a 2023 22 with a 350hp 6.2 Bravo, single ram latham setup. Stock TA. Looks like a good setup, hoping for a ride soon.

Is the 6.2 a LS based motor?

Yep, all Merc since GM isn't supplying base engines for them anymore. But HEAVILY based on the old stuff.

I can't believe this thread still has legs. "It's an old fashioned gentleman's speedboat." lmao
