Video of Zero Defect colliding with Black Shadow Pro Stocker at Key West Worlds


This happened right in front of us. Pro stocker Black Shadow was down on power and Trying to get to the pits when they should have pulled into the infield then cross when it was clear instead of straight lining to clear. Same thing happened years later at the same area with CMS and CT Marine.

Mike Drury, not “Johnny” was throttling as stated in previous 46 Thread. . He lost communication coms with his driver. Mike was quick to yank the kill switches. You can see the props stop in the video. At the awards banquet were told the driver was pretty banged up with severe lacerations. He eventually recovered.

That looks painful.

Looks like starboard wheel of the 46 went right through driver of the OB!

That is a bad one....

I was there and watched it unfold in front of us. the bullet of the drive hit the drivers helmet and pulled him up and the prop went down his back. the thick life jacket took a lot of the prop impact but the drive bullet impacting the helmet caused a lot of brain swelling so they kept him in a drug induced coma for quite a while. I talked to some one who knew him and inquired about it. he said that he recovered quite well and if you did not know what happened you would never have guessed what he went thru. Mike told me at the time, and you can tell if you see the whole sequence, that when they came up on them he cut the throttles but cats coast a ways. the pro stock turned some toward the inside and he figured he might make it passed them when they turned back in the lane and they had no where to go. in all the years in offshore that was probably the scariest crash I ever witnessed.

can't watch that. or big thunder. or any other deadly/near deadly crash. just can't.
