So when I bought this boat… I had trouble getting “real” info. The internet is a black hole when it comes to true QCV4 info.
There are some things I’ve learned:
- Mercury is behind, but currently accepting rebuilds for fall time frame.
- there are other options for rebuilds outside of Mercury with quite a few refreshes under their belt.
- when Mercury does motor refresh, they’re also doing transmissions and offering any “updates”.
- I’ll add a little bit to the discussion of builder vs OEM. I think OEMs with their resources generally sort out inherent design flaws on the computer or during R&D. I think the average custom builder has tribal knowledge…. It’s only when three or four motors melt the same rear cylinder do they learn fuel distribution is poor with blower X, etc. Now, for arguments sake, I know that’s not ALL builders…. But most learn the old fashioned way (which is an art)… and sometimes it’s at the expense of some motors.

there's a new generation of hardware coming with billet blocks and heads and spread out bore spacing much higher hp is now possible to us with out being on the ragged edge Plus we own it! we can tinker with it,we can crank it to the moon and if we hurt it we can fix it , the software has the freedom to make all adjustments finally we do not have to bow to Mercury i think mercs eventual downfall was not embracing all the very good engine shops out here in the real world they got greedy and treated us like rift raft lowlifes that dare to ask permission to touch there hardware......Old School is rising!
