long hub prop, rear end were cone goes.

Front of prop, see the "what looks like a thrust washer" can't see the rubber portion behind it. New hub gets presssed n flush and i guess that big washer thats part of the hub helps to align it, well it does help because i've pressed in a million crooked merc and omc 400/800 hubs.
on this prop pictured you would stamp/center punch the black and silver/gray and go for a boat ride then pull the prop and check to see if said stamped marks are aligned or not.
oh you could just pull the cone and stamp the prop and hub too.

Short hub prop cone with castle thingy Thrust washer/fishing line cutter, lock/tab washer.
the long hub props don't use the castle thingy (extension) the bolt goes thru the cone and into the prop shaft
there is also a 1 piece long cone with tab slots for the short hub props.

Thank you you are right on the money. It is my bushing in the prop that is bad. I will have a new prop and or the old prop repaired. Hopefully I can keep water out of the bellows and all will be good. Thank you for all the help everyone!

Do your self a favor and remove the upper housing from the intermediate housing and install the intermediate housing back on the transom assy, it will go together much easier than wrestling the whole drive back into position.

you can still install the driveshaft bellows on the bell housing, take the 2 Allen bolts out of the steer stub on the upper housing, screw them into the threaded
holes in the pin, tighten them, it will force the pin out, now take the upper housing, turn it sideways as to the installed position, compress the bellow, guide the u joint assy as you maneuver the upper housing unit inward,
guide the bellow on to the upper housing, once it in far enough, rotate and lift it into the installed position, lower it down so that the studs pass through the housing, then it’s back in position, install the nuts on the studs the Allen bolts at the rear, tighten the bellow hose clamp, connect the shift link, position the steer helmet, install the stub through to hole in the helmet and into the upper housing , install the Allen bolts that hood the stub in, install the rear cover, when you install the lower, don’t forget to install the coupler on the vertical shaft before installing the lower.

Excellent thank you for the tip!!
I am unable to find any good videos on getting the prop bushing out and installing a new one. It looks easy but not sure if a large press is needed to remove and install bushing ect... thanks again for your help!

The hub has to be pressed out, there is a funnel shaped steel tool the size of the prop opening and slightly larger at the top to press a new hub in. The hub is larger diameter than the hole it goes into. Gotta take it to a prop shop for that.
a good idea is to buy a new or reconditioned prop as a spare along with spare cone, bolt and tab washer. Imagine spinning the hub or something couple days into a vacation or 2-3 hours boat ride back home except now it's it's a 6 hour idle

from memory (1984-1989) the volvo prop hubs have what looks like the thrust washer from a merc prop built cast as part of the splined barrel the rubber hub is on so when it is pressed in the thrust washer fits inside and flush to the prop hub, and you cant see the rubber like on a merc. Stamp or scratch the prop hub and the part that looks like the thrust washer, the marks wont be aligned after a boat ride. Any prop shop can press in a new one.

I'll try to find a pic of a volvo prop splined hub.

I am so embarrassed, never even entered my mind.
We always had bronze props on ours.

Don't know what your budget will allow but upgrading to a matched set of stainless Solas props on my Cobalt really made a huge improvement .
