You realize there are two flaws in your plan right?
1. "use as much as possible" is code name for something expensive will likely break
2. We are in a declining market, I/O stuff doesn't sell great brand new today when compared to OB's. So if these boats are suffering from "lot rot" now they will likely be harder to sell at the end of next season.

A lot of times, I believe, it means that they've poured too much money into the boat and now they hope somebody will come along and pay top dollars so they may recover some of all that money they've spent. In the meantime, they're using the boat to get some usage out of it and when no buyer appears, the boat will eventually need another $5k-$10k spent on it again. They simply can't come to terms with the fact it's time to bite the bullet.

Another fly in the ointment: In the recreational boating world, spring is a sellers market. Fall is a buyers market. So you'll be buying high and selling low.
Totally agree with prev posts abt boats with stock engs selling much easier. Virtually no recreational boater runs their high performance boat wide open all the time. The extra few MPH are for bragging rights only and will most likely lead to more downtime repairing/tweaking. Since the coof started, supply chains are still not right and parts can take a long time to get. I'd much rather be anchored in the cove sipping a cold one watching the hotties than sweating my balls off in the driveway trying to figure out why it won't idle right.
