It had to be mechanical issues, power loss/total steering failure. No qualified captain could do that without major issues.

Hoping for the successful rescue of all those effected.

Hopefully many will have been rescued. This will be a mess for quite a while, land traffic, waterway traffic, debris in the water as well as chemicals. How quickly things can change. Thoughts and prayers to all that were involved.

This is a timeline of what happened with the power losses, recovery, and the crash.
They were able to signal a mayday, and clear the bridge of traffic. However, there was a Construction/Pothole crew on the bridge, and those appear to be most of the victims.

once they radioed in the mayday for the power loss and loss of steering they were able to shut down traffic on the bridge... these pics are from a member of the CBPBA.. not sure who took them.. this is literally about 150 yds from where francis scott key was while writing the star spangled banner. all ships are piloted out by a bay pilot, and this is about a mile or so from where the other ship was grounded a couple years back. unfortunately there was a construction crew on the bridge.
