APBA or SBI
If you were going to attend a couple of races, which schedule would you look at?
|
Both!We hope SBI will be more exciting and larger in 2003 than 2002 and we're doing what we can up here in Jersey to do just that! The Jersey Boyz are also going to run a few APBA races this year also, can't get enough so I would say go to both.
|
if you are looking to attend some races, then the worlds for both organizations are the ones to see.

AUGGIE....well said I would like to add. How far would you be willing to travel. theres races all along the the eastern seaboard plus the great lakes. and Texas Both bodies host great events. It just depends on how much traveling you want to do. Im assuming your from Florida. Hell...you dont even have to leave your state to get great racong from both bodies all season long |
Attend as a racer? If so, what class? Or as a fan?
|
APBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
As a fan, either one if they bring races to the Gulf Coast.
|
If there is APBA and SBI----- what group heads up St Cloud in Florida? Is there a unique Florida Offshore group like there is FORA (Florida Outboard Racing Association)??
If there is a Florida group does it have a schedule??? I'm trying to plan 2003.. Thanks |
The BIG SHOW! APBA ALL THE WAY!
John C. "aka BUBBA" can take a long walk off of a short pier! |
gdfatha, there was FORCE or something like that. it was a regional florida organization. i don't know what happened to it.
|
APBA, if you want to see more boats. I don't care for SBI's lax and flexable rules, let alone the lack of boats.
|
Hey Dave, a lot of us are trying to put the positive spin back in offshore. Personal problems are not appreciated. I consider you a friend. But stop attacking the sport and the people that run it.
|
Dave,
Smitty's right. I consider you a friend too. But that comment wasnt necessary. Keep it cool..lets not start the bad blood thing. It doesnt do anybody any good |
Thanks Bruce
|
Strike, lets get together we just want to race any where any time SBI APBA or SABPIBA who cares get your guys together. We are doing every thing we can to ralley the troops. Spring will be here before we know it.
|
Florida
gdfatha....Florida has the OPBRA....nice folks....also FORCE is run out of the sunshine state...
|
Smitty,
You are right, what ever club you want to race is fine. But we do need to rally the troups, and every show will be the big show.We can make a differance. Being negative isnt helping us or the sport.I dont think John,or Mike A really care what we think. But it not fair that the fans have to deal with all the bull. They are fan because they want to see us do what we do best and that race. There are leaders and followers in this world! Each and ever racer should be proud win lose or draw. They do what most people can only dream about, and I tip my hat to every racer and proud to say i know them, and it doesnt matter if they race APBA or SBI.I've meet and have become very good friends with alot of fellow racer, and I've never seen a better bunch of guys when the ships are down and one of us need a favor or a hand.I think most of you know what i'm talking about,so let talk about the positive things we do not the negative. WE ALL NEED TO PULL TOGETHER AND MAKE THIS COMING YEAR THE BEST EVER.IF YOU WANT TO BE NEGATIVE AND START **** WAIT FOR THE FLAG TO DROP I'M SURE THERE WILL BE PLENTY OF US TO TAKE YOU ON.SAVE THE TUFF GUY **** FOR RACE DAY AND THEN WILL SEE WHO THE REAL WINNERS ARE!!!!! |
Wow, I checked this post a few hours ago and no reply. Now we have several. Ihope I did not stir upa controversy. If I attend, it will be as a spectator. As much as I would lieit, I cannot afford to be a competitor. Lookng at the schedules(and having the good fortune to be from florida), I guess I should try both and judge for myself from there. Hope to meet many of you in the future.
|
Florida Gator.
How dare you start this thread and not hang around for all the fun. lol Anyway, like I said and as others have said, both bodies put on a good show. Yes APBA apparently brings more boats to their events, but I think with all the events that are scheduled in Florida, you will certainly have your fill of racing either way. So, have a great holiday season and stay tuned for the next episode of offshore racing. Keep your eyes open for the Jersey Boyz coming to a town near you... |
I have not been "into" powerboat racing as long as I have other sports, but, I think I have heard of APBA much more than SBI. I, for many years, have checked the APBA schedule. I only recently have heard of SBI.
|
Flordia Gator, you will soon hear a lot about SBI cause The Jersey Boyz are coming! Smitty,Bruce,"Friendly Cab" keep it up,Mr.Ricky called again last night 10:30 pm, WAZZUP with that, .........FRANKIE keep up the good work.........Dave, help us make this all work for ALL of us,try to put all the BS aside,The Jersey Boyz are trying to get this off the ground and could use YOUR help! AUGIE

Florida Gator,
Check out leasing if you are interested in racing. No up front costs, and no risk (other than that you take by being out on the course) and you will be racing in equally prepared boats. They are leased by Reindl Powerboats, and they are a member of this board if you are interested. |
Hey Guys,
Sharkey - we are friends and we can agree to dissagree. Unfortunately I think John's actions are more detrimental to the sport than my public opinion of the man. John is an absolute embarrassment to the sport. Augie - I think what you guys are trying to do is great. As long as it involves APBA I'll back you guys 10000% |
Dave, back us as your friends as well as members of njppc and please come to The Jersey Boyz, notice I said THE JERSEY BOYZ first meeting,we are trying for 12/21 at the crab house next to Winward beach and I think most Questions will be answered then and we could really use your input.Thanks.
|
Hey Augie,
As long as the wife does not have me committed to something else I will attend. Put me on your email list for when you have the solid date, time, place. |
Dave,
See Smitty's post... Marty |
Cool guys, everything is coming together,Thanks Marty!
|
dave,
you go i will go. think they'll listen????????????? Treadwell |
Hi Eric,
We all need to try and do what we can,we are the only ones that can make a differance. If we all are positive and proactive the reat will follow.Things are not oerfect but on the other hand they are not really so bad. Eric do you have any interest running SBI next year? We always talk about not enough boats but if we all brand together we can make it better. We need to take control, you could be a get help.I enjoyed racing with you year before last.I also wont forget when you help me in St.Cloud a few years ago when I went over in my 33 Scarab.I wasnt there and never really did get achance to thanks, because I was in the hospital but believe me I dont forget....They said you were in the pits alredy and came back put to HELP!!!! Frank |
Treadwell,The First meeting of The Jersey Boyz Offshore Racing Crews is set as you may know for 12/21 more details to follow and yes we would welcome you and Dave as well as your comments as this meeting is open to all.The crews want to race and have fun for us,you and our "Families" See you there! Augie.
|
Dave,Thanks,I knew we could count on you and Dad.
|
Frank,
like i said i have been there since the begining and anybody who truly kows me i am willing to help with everthing i posibly can. i stopped running sbi because my sposors said there is not enough pull there and the tv is not good enough. the people who are serious about racing are actually starting to make money in this sport. the manufactures are standing behind the racers and slowley one by one you see it there are factory tems and teams with full sponsorship. the unfortunate part is sbi up front said he did not need any of us factory racers he just needed the big boats. well the factory racers have been the core for the last 5 years. and slowley but surley the p class has been bringing big numbers to. the problem is nobody wants to treat it like a bussiness and go forward everbody wants to complain and see how far back we can throw it in the stone age. now finally after so many years and so many bad boat count's people are slowley seeing the light. the biggest problem is to many cheifs and not enough indians. we could go on forever and debate it. bottom line is when the decision is made to go apba then you will find how many people will come out and support the whole thing. like i said first year will be tough but it will take of fast and grow. treadwell |
Treadwell,we have 25- P boats already for the 2003 season and would like to get more and I understand EVERYTHING you are saying and your CONCERNS,lets see what can fly at the meeting.Augie
|

Steps To make offshore racing successful in NJ again:
1. Local Racers Should Become the NE Division of APBA 2. Rules & Tech Specs should be set in stone all season long and not set in pencil with an eraser 3. Sponsors should be welcomed and be involved as PARTNERS and TREATED as partners not BOSSES 4. Make the sponsorship $$$ amount affordable to the sponsor sees a return on their investment. Sell more sponsorships at a lower price instead of looking for ONE big one. 5. Nothing but the TRUTH should be spoken at all times - NO HYPE to lead to disappointment 6. Make the whole process fun so people (racers & volunteers) who take time away from their work and families enjoy themselves and don't walk away frustrated Just my $.02 based on 20yrs experience |
DAVE,cool,cool,cool.....Bring the .02 and 20 years with you, don't forget to bring POP!The only STUPID question or statement is the one that is held back!
|
Dave, when the rules for DIVISIONAL classes are written there will BE NO CHANGES during the season!Bring ALL your thoughts,THANKS Augie
|
Dave,
Can I add.. #7) Make the entry fees affordable! P class should be trophy racing (no prize money)-If you want to race professionally:step up to F1, F2, supercat etc... #8) Eliminate the $500.00 "boat registration fee" this only lines the pockets of the local promotor. #9) Have a "single event" entry fee-that way new racers may want to give racing a shot-without going broke. #10) Welcome everyone ie; APBA, SBI, PokerRunners and other clubs-Great Lakes, Force etc. Remember when the problem in the 70's and early 80's was too many boats 85-90?? The past few years there have been too few boats, last year 27. See all at the meeting. Keep the ideas flowing! Bob G. |
Excellent Points Bob!
If the races could become self funded by the racers (like poker runs) and the sponsor $$ help with some fringe expenses and pay for some perks you could hold as many races as you want. Relying on sponsors to have a race is too painful to deal with. |
