Default Why do we do this?

I just had the water impellers replaced by an honest shop in Northern IL, $1600. Labor obviously was most of the bill. As I was driving home I was wondering is this performance boating worth it at this point. Than I fired the winterized motors and thought yes this is definitely worth every penny

You need to find a new shop.

I have a customer who drives his boat from Chicago, to me in Saugatuck so I can store it for him in the winter and work on it for him. He says its cheaper than having it all done in Chicago.

I think we find tolerable levels of cost-to-pleasure and stay there. IMHO, this is what drives a lot of people out of the sport/hobby...the sheer expense of it. Even a new/newer boat that doesn't have repair costs is still expensive to run and store. For most of us though, it is still all worth it.

When I was a younger man, I enjoyed purchasing English sports cars, doing minor restoration work, driving them for a while, then selling them and getting others. But after a while the lack of parts availability along with the cost took away most of the 'fun'. So at that point I gave it up.

I personally can't ever see "giving up" boating.

For that feeling you get when you just idled out of the marina, and mama gives you the all good thumbs up.

Thats why we do this
