1991 Stingray 689 SVX Fuel leak
Has anyone every worked on one of these boats? I have a fuel leak after topping the tank off it must have overfilled by the time the pump shut off and The top of tank that is partially visible in the engine compartment is wet and there is some fuel in the bilge under the engine. The tank was half full and the bilge was dry before topping it off. I'm wondering how the tank is assembled and installed. it looks like i will need to remove the floor to access the sending unit and return fittings But I'm not sure, I was to disgusted to investigate further after just purchasing the boat and topping the tank off on the way to trailering it to the marina i was planning on storing it for the season. I'm really not sure what to do at this point. Selling it is not an option seeing as i'm probably only person stupid enough to buy a 32 year old boat in 2024.

Is it leaking from the fuel sender unit? If it leaks mostly when the tank is full or nearly full that could be where the leak is. It might just need a new fuel sender gasket. Could be leaking from where the fill hose is clamped to the tank as well. Get everything completely dry and see if it still leaks. If not, slowly fill the tank untilt the leak starts and try and locate it. It could of course be the tank, which would be a major job but hopefully it is just the fuel sender gasket.
