Even the 1075s were crazy money to rebuild back in the day. One owner of a 47 GTX told me its $500 an hour to run that boat (just engine rebuild price) so fast foward to today (160K/200 hours = $800 an hour). So add in fuel and insurance/ hours used and suddenly its $1000's an hour to turn on the keys! Some guys will dump the boats before the rebuild is due and let the new owner pay for it.

M.A.N. did something similar back in the day by funding Viking through cheap, possibly free, engines. Find a used Viking and you will find an owner with 100-200k in receipts over the last couple years. M.A.N. knew No one would not pay the money to let those boats go... and it's still way more to repower so they turned saving Viking into a long term annuity. And new boat owners didn't care, they dumped them before warranty ran out

I have no idea where some of you are getting pricing…. $54,000 is Mercs cost on 1100 and 1350 rebuilds.

Now, that being said this does not include exhaust, which in most realms is foolish not to replace at this juncture.

Kaase is another slightly cheaper option as well.

I own ChattVipers old boat. It has 295 hours on it now. Valves lash perfect, oil consumption perfect, leak down perfect… they are no where NEAR needing rebuilds.

400-450+ hours is pretty routine for cared for 1100s

Mercury had a display of a 1350 + a M8 and gimble at PBC four plus yrs a go and it was 150K IIRC

i have a friend who lost a 1350 at 189 hours it was $115,000 to rebuild both and replace a turbo housing or 2. from what i have seen the 1100s run at least twice as long the 1350s before needing a refresh. valve lash and paying attention to oil temp and getting it hot before beating on it is important.

Hmmmm, not sure where you're getting your numbers from, my friend had his 1350s rebuilt last year and received a $178k invoice from Merc for the rebuilds. He pulled the motors, crated/shipped them himself and also put them back in his 40' Skater. They had around 110 hours on them, so he did as Merc suggests and had them gone through. This is firsthand knowledge, not something I saw on the internet. They're incredible motors - no other pump-gas motors come close - but they're not cheap. It's a known fact that Merc underrates all their QV4C motors, each model is an absolute torque and HP monster! A new set of QV4C 1100 or 1350 packages are going in the mid-to-high $300k range that I last know of. I don't believe they've topped $400k yet, but I also haven't known anyone that bought a set this year. With the price increases being what they've been lately, it wouldn't surprise me if they are over $400k for a pair now (complete w/ trans/gimbals/drives). Hours between overhauls will be all over the place, depending on how they're run. Most big Skaters are eating them up at the recommended intervals (200hrs on 1100s/100 hours on 1350s) because the engines are getting run hard. I've heard of DCB guys getting a lot of hours out of them because they don't run them near as hard and/or spend a lot of time cruising the channel at Havasu.

I had a pair of new 1100 QC4Vs in my boat in 2015 . Nothing comes close to ease and reliability, as well as manners around the dock. That kind of power on pump gas, and oddly fuel efficient as well. Valve lash, with proper care and maintenance and they are good for 400+ hours. Yes, upfront cost is more than a traditional Big Block, but so is resale. Rebuilds aren't cheap, but what's a boat worth with fresh QC4V power ? I feel all the money.
