53.........one kid out of college, the 2nd graduating in May! Zero college debt on either, both have ridiculous jobs with fortune 100 companies.
I've had a bunch of cars over the years but decided to order a new 7 speed 911 GTS/4. Did European delivery in the summer of 23, was running 150+ mph down the autobahn less than an hour after leaving the factory, drove it to Italy, then Switzerland then back into Germany. Did the Stelvio Pass (49 hairpin turns running from Italy to Switzerland) 3 days after it opened for the season (had 3 ft snowbanks at the top of the pass). Got passed by an Audi RS6 Avant and my car "waffled" at 145 mph like an 18 wheeler passed me! Audi had to be well passed 175 mph, I offered to try to catch up but the right seat navigator gave me a solid "negative ghostrider" on that idea. Porsche says the car goes 193, I never saw much past low 150's. Life moves pretty fast at 2.5 miles a minute, 1/2 mile every 12 seconds. Its my 3rd 911 but the first one I've ever ordered. My concern was the prices kept going up and as I aged closer to retirement I'd worry about buying something expensive if it impacts retirement but if I got too old then maybe I wouldn't even want the car! 2 travesties in life, getting what you want and not getting what you want! Great trip, put almost 1500 miles on the car before it got loaded on the boat for the 37 day trip to America, even left an Apple AirTag in the door pocket so we could track where the car was during the journey. Euro Delivery is no longer offered by a lot of manufacturers (MB, Porsche and Volvo seem to be the 3 main ones left). Maybe I'll order another one, wait times have shrunk since Covid shortages are over. Next trip would have to include the Nürburgring! Putting Christmas stuff away last weekend, found a skateboard I had built 20 years ago, did a lap around the block (Iphone in my front pocket, just in case I landed on my azz). Uneventful but felt like shin splints coming on so I put it back in the garage! Sometimes you just have to "do it"..........lost a brother in law this week, ALS @ 51 years old. Awesome guy and he didn't have a great last couple years. Doc Jansen's 53 OL looks pretty sweet in the classifieds.............:D A 53 @ 53? |
53, Holy $hit!!!
Don`t even get me started . Where the F did the time go. I work too much , feel like I missed my kids youth. One reason I stuck with the cig so damn long is because it was a good family boat for us and that the time I got to spend time with my kids. |
