Did Reggie like HydroStreams, or is it just a coincidence that they both had beaks. Funny Reggie and Howard both built light fast boats.

But it's just something about them that makes you like them. And thats coming from a cat man.

I look at the beak as being an anti stuffing device. I've seen two fountains stuff this year and both came out of it unscathed.
Then there was the Fountain that didn't survive so well. It was at a Canadian Race a couple years back. I'll have to dig up that video.

That was at a race here in Toronto, the first Znetix boat .....broke almost in half.........but I LOVE them too!! 35 is coming as soon as the damn snow melts:D

I once spoke to the Vice President of Fountain at a boat show.
He said that the beak gives the bow added lift at high speed.
The more bow lift the faster you go.
I have also notiched that the beak will keep the water off your glasses in the nasty stuff.

That #99 brings back memories. What ever happened to the great Ohio Steel.

Mate 229 12-08-2002 11:12 AM

The Ohio Steel boat was pretty impressive for it's time. In 1993 it set the Kilo record at 123.9mph. Many famous offshore guys ran Fountains in their past, Nordskog 42 Lightning, Pat Patel, Art Lilly, Tres Martin "INXS" a great running and looking boat along with many others. Allways like them and finally got one this year.

The old Ohio Steel is featured in the most recent issue of either Hot Boat or Family Performance Boating. The boat is now called Nada Chance and has been completely redone from power to paint. I will try and find the article and post it if I can. Also a friend of mine use to race boats with Reggie and I will give him a call to see if he has any old pics I can scan. For anyone who cares if you are ever in the Washington North Carolina area you can take a tour of the Fountain Factory. I have some pics of that from about five years ago I will post them later after the football game.
