Help! ! Need a coupler
#11
Wow, I see what you mean. Well I am changing from the triangular ones because I am building some power. I already have one of the old mag couplers (no zerks but large machined plate, splines good great). I can get another new one on ebay for hopefully $100. They are only gonna see 450 hp but im building the engines so that I never (hopefully) have to mess with them again. I dont want to have to mess with couplers either. Your thoughts?

Just went through this hassle last summer. Most of the cost is labor. Why use used parts when a new one is so minimal compared to other parts/services? Remember what we are talking about here.

Correct me if I'm wrong, .......but I was told the new couplers are made from bronze instead of aluminum. Should be more durable.

Rod, is there a different part number for the new coupler? Ca you get them. My local guy didnt know what I was talking about and I really doubt I can get them for that price around here. Also, do you know if they will fit in my old 88 flywheel housings with the triangular coupler? The center hole seems a lot smaller than the other Bravos I remember. Thanks Tom

Let me get this right...
You are upgrading your motors to 450+ HP and you are going to install used couplers to save a $200 or so? You must like doing everything twice....
Get the new coupler and don't have a migraine during boating season....

Sounds stupid doenst it, But I have very limited funds and put the money on things that I know need it first. Ive never hurt a coupler, Im only changing them now as a safety factor and I dont like the triangular ones. I wish I had the funds to put the best of everything in but do the best I can. I use stock rods too, reconned and good bolts but if I had the money, Id get something better just to be safe, but ive never broken a rod either. With both couplers and housings, its closer to $1000.
