Trying to find Miami vice Scarab
Guys, I know this is a big ask but does anyone have any information on the Miami vice scarab that was in Gallions point Marina, London a few years ago? Was told by Axle that worked there that it was for sale due to unpaid storage fees.
Marina then closed down and I’m trying to see if anyone knows where it ended up. Also if anyone knows of any other 38 or 43 Scarabs for sale around Europe I’d appreciate the heads up Cheers |

I think I remember that boat for sale. It was sitting out in the yard uncovered. Most of the boats from that time period are rot buckets by now unless they have been gone thru. The cost to redo one outweighs buying on that is already done. You would be thousands of dollars ahead buying this one Attachment 577910, than redoing one.

Oh maybe it could have been scrapped then.
Can’t download your link for some reason not sure why Thanks for the reply and if you can send the link another way I’ll be sure to take a look |

One of the "original" Scarabs was for sale for something like $20M...is this the one you are talking about? There was some discussion about it here, basically people saying you were paying for the provenance/mystique...because yeah, you can find boats of that year and model for one helluva lot less.

Here is #1

Wasn't there a YT vid of a collector that had a shop full of oldschool offshore boats...one being a Miami Vice boat? Can't seem to find it again.

i have seen this ad a while back. I tought the boat looked good from far, but far from good when having the chance to look into the engine room...
i mean it is a salt water boat, you can expect that, but for that kind of money, IMO, it should look much better and cleaner power train wise... |

It is highly unlikely that it actually changed hands for $20 million.

This boat is an interesting runner for somebody who doesn't care if it came as a 38 KV with the 'Miami Vice Edition' paint job originally.
However, the hull has an okay wrap, but with non-painted matching gunnels and deck it looks non-Miami Vice. That has to be painted and then one might as well paint the whole thing. Not a small sum of money. The cabin looks cheaply put together and is not even finished completely. This boat needs to come down quite a bit in price to sell. There are just too many good Apache brand, and Cigarette 38 boats of newer and much better quality on the market right now for this kind of money. If I absolutely had to have a Scarab with this look or similar, I'd hunt down a true Team Scarab by Larry Smith 38 or 43 and I'd then know that I got a super high quality build and a boat that will keep its value if I in the future plowed some coins into it. A couple of videos of it. P.S. Speculator, ScarabViper, did You say you're in Europe? If so, there's a ton of very clean, high-performance, offshore boats for sale in Scandinavia right now. The prices are dramatically better than in the U.S.A. What's your comfortable budget? D.S. Below photo: Larry Smith's personal 1987 Team Scarab 38. This is the kind of Scarab, if that what it had to be, I'd find. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4ed6914947.jpg |

Bring one of the Norwegian boats for sale to the U.S. and it's a start. Larry Smith's boat sold a couple of years ago and the new owner was going to put higher
performance engines in it. The thing is that family has several Team Scarab boats, 38s and 43s. I'll find out to see what they might let go of. Dan at Team Archer Marine in Huntington Beach, California usually knows what's out there in Team Scarab way, so give him a call. There's a very nice Scarab Viper for sale currently, but I didn't grasp if you have one already. There's also an ex. Team Scarab 31 race boat for sale, now poker run boat, that's mint in Texas. Vipers are usually restored by now or definitely needs restoration due to Wellcraft's questionable build quality in the early '90s. it's natural to look to buy a Wellcraft 38 KV or early 377 KE flatdeck in great condition and I guess a KV with a 'Vice Edition' paint job is the ultimate here. Having looked at several Wellcraft Scarab Viper examples before I pulled the trigger on my Larry Smith 31 Team Scarab, I learned the hard way the questionable build quality of the Wellcraft Viper boats. Mind you that the Wellcraft 38 KV boats were built ahead of those and even more iffy. So do another 9 posts and describe what you Larry Smith 38's history is, year, motor drives are, and condition in different aspects of it naturally. The fellow in Germany has got a good budget and folks here in the U.S. and Canada are always hot for a Larry Smith 38 in good/great condition. |

It is a 2002 supposedly the last 38 built out of Westerly not that familiar with the different companies that laid them up. Motors are 588’s dart big chief heads, kinsler 8 stack with Holley efi, #5 drives on boxes, stelling headers. All new interior, gauges, steering wheel. I will post some pics when I get back to work in the morning. Also I am the second owner of it. Thanks |
Interesting boat with nice driveline. Create its own thread in the Scarab section here, it deserves it.
Include the three first letter in the HIN(hull identification number), so we figure out who built it for sure. Westerly was a legendary outfit that built Scarab boats for Larry Smith, so if that's what the HIN shows, it's a big plus. |
