I need some ideas
 

Any engineers in the house?I’d like to add a small windscreen behind the rear seats similar to what DCB does, but this will have to be a DIY / budget-friendly version.

I have a flat fiberglass surface directly behind the seats and want to mount a polycarbonate screen approximately 10" high. The goal is for it to be:

• Installed when running (to knock down the wind)
  
• Easily removable when not in use
  
• no permanent “ugly” hardware sticking up
  

I was considering using something like pin cleats or a quick-release style mount, but I’m not sure how to adapt that concept to securely hold a polycarbonate panel .
Looking for ideas on hardware, mounting methods, or any input ..

Totally different motor sport but check out some of the Corvette sites. That’s a very common option for convertible Corvettes to cut down on wind and sound for the driver and pax. You may get some ideas or inspiration from the aftermarket manufacturers who cater to the Vette crowd.

Maybe???? Quick release docking cleat - QRTLC2R-L01 - Livorsi Marine, Inc.
Adjust the angle on the cleat part from the current 45ish* to maybe 80* based on the angle of your engine hatch.
Drill through the cleats and bolt them to a custom cut piece of 3/8" lexan or acrylic. Probably use 4 of them.

Great ideas, I ordered the livorsi Cleat . Never seen those.
The surface does lean a bit towards the transom so a little angle works out .

Might seem like a silly question, but....

Have you planned on where you're going to store this piece when it's not in use? Make a mock-up of it out of cardboard, or whatever, and try and stow it on the boat. You may have to do a two-piece deal. I know I've painted myself in the corner a few times, making something that solved my problem perfectly, only to find I couldn't shoehorn in into place or tuck it away. Just a thought....

Maybe some sockets and posts from a car headrest? I am sure the posts would have to be modified to accept the Lexan, but the sockets may work out.

Fabricate it in - motorized. Up when you want down when you don't.

They make some pretty impressive suction cups....maybe not to use permanently but at least to be able to test the placement out on the water before permanently mounting.

I knew when I saw you post that DCB this would be coming! :drink:

There is a ton of room in these sponsons to store things!



Have you thought about loosening up the rear seat headrest piece and sliding in a piece of Lexan that was cut to fit in between? I'm not sure if it can be moved forward enough to accommodate this without making everything else weird? Maybe make it with "slots" that went around all the bolts that mount the back seat top to the hull so it just slides in and out easy-ish. You can see the pic without the top of the back seat it runs completely across. Bolts are easy to access since the lower seat backs velcro in place. At least use this for "proof of concept before you start hacking up the hull.

Those are good points. I should test it before I make holes.
Motorized would be great, I`m not that talented however to pull that off myself.lol
Behind the seats, I thought of that too Dave.. the top is at a 30degree angle and the screws are high.. I`ll have to think on that .

Brad I`ve crawled into the gunnel before and closed the door, and I finished part of the sponson :D but to your point I don`t want it too unyieldy.
